3 Dave Covers (Vids)

Unread post by soright » Mon Jan 22, 2007 3:32 pm

Hey guys I just did little covers of a few dave songs with me and my guitar, no singing...didn't want to ruin them...but let me know what you think. I know they aren't the exact way he might play them....they are just my little variations.

i cant play stone but i suggest you to practice your strums at all the songs... i mean the pattern not the speed (witch i think yours is VERY fast)

Work on your rythem. It's sloppy.

It is not bad, but I suggest the following:

1. Play with a metronome to develop your rhythm skills

2. Grab the pick with the top of your fingers and keep your right hand more open

3. Try to play with both hand relaxed (start with the metronome with a slower bit)

Good job man and good luck!

you make playing the guitar look difficult. but just keep practicing and like others said with a metronome. just be consistant with that and it wil come

Thanks for the comments guys. Can you point out where my rhythm needs help? I guess I don't really hear it....too biased :).

Sure I could play the stone the rate Dave plays it but it would be a lot more boring for me, and for the viewer.

And what do you mean I make playing the guitar look hard? It can be hard, difficult songs are difficult to play...nothing wrong with that.

Here's a critique of your Two Step video...

It was way too rushed and played a little too hard. It makes a beautiful song sound like a mess. I'm really not sure what you're playing around 0:50 but it didn't sound like it fit. The rhythm on the verse was completely off, sounded way too fast and choppy. I'd also try to play those chords the way they are on this site. It didn't look like you used your pinky at all during the verse, which makes playing the song a lot easier IMO. When you went back to the intro you got a little crazy there  I'd try to take that down about 5 notches. It makes it sound like you're butchering it. The chords you were playing around the 1:35 mark sounded a bit off. Actually the whole part between 1:45 and 2:02 sounded really off, I'm not exactly sure what you were playing there but it sounded very rough.

Overall, the rhythm was way off for most of it. You were also hitting a lot of strings/notes that you shouldn't have. I'd say work on the verse the most, because the rhythm wasn't even close to the way it should be.

i only listened to the stone. you should play the chord in the verse that the tabs on this site have (you're just leaving out one note). and i think when you play that chord you're playing it way too hard compared to how loud you're playing the main riff. and you need to clean up that riff anyway.

and the chorus, again.. i think you were playing too hard.

i would work on timing and rythm of the other songs before two step, it's a little more complicated imo.

I dunno, I thought Two Step was the easiest rhythm-wise.
