Warehouse....amazing. Ants Marching...wow. Tripping Billies...incredible. The Stone...holy shit.
I could do that forever! but warehouse is just one finely written and played song.

I disagree. I dont think ants is anywhere near a masterpiece. Neither are ANY of dmb's songs though. Great symphonies are described as being a masterpiece. Bach, Beethoven...they wrote masterpieces. Some jazz pieces could be described as a masterpiece. Putting dmb on that level doesnt make sense to me...dave wrote some great songs and had some good musicians add some flare to them.Davy28 wrote:True, but Ants comes damn close.
I guess the word carries more meaning for me than "a single artist's best work," which is what it seems people here are taking it as.

i see what you're saying, but i think they are looking for dave's best work. they say masterpiece meaning dave's masterpiece...like his greatest song, his greatest work of art. not one of music's masterpieces written by dave. i agree w/ you that dave nor any other pop modern artist should be mentioned in the same sentence as bach and beethoven and mozart etc. but i think they're just syaing here dave's greatest work...which i have already answered according to my opinionmbgreen wrote:I disagree. Nail on the head. I still cant say masterpiece and dmb in the same sentence though.Appsoldier wrote:i see what you're saying, but i think they are looking for dave's best work. they say masterpiece meaning dave's masterpiece...like his greatest song, his greatest work of art. not one of music's masterpieces written by dave. i agree w/ you that dave nor any other pop modern artist should be mentioned in the same sentence as bach and beethoven and mozart etc. but i think they're just syaing here dave's greatest work...which i have already answered according to my opinionmbgreen wrote:I disagree. I love when people say that cause then i can say "how about the sentence 'DMB has not ever written a masterpiece.'"mbgreen wrote:Nail on the head. because the dreaming tree is superior to both those songs in both instrumentation and compositionDmbFanJason wrote:...why would you pick dreaming tree over Ants or Tripping Billies? I've never heard Dreaming Tree live, and would rather hear Billies or Ants over that song for every show.

Instead of acting like you know it all.. just think if UTTAD hadn't done what it did.. none of us wouldn't have even bothered picking up a DMB CD..if you're talking to a non-dmb fan, i really doubt they would pick a song off of BTCS.. =P What Would you Say?Appsoldier wrote:amen...nor does an album.zeppelin41 wrote:I don't think a song's popularity is what makes it a maserpiece
just because UTTAD HELPED them become popular doesn't mean it defines them. dmb's anthem would have to be a collaboration album of their best stuff from each record, it's the only way to capture the whole band. The only reason i named those others is because it's pretty undisputable that those are their best albums/peaks of their existances. Look at the "best dave album" threads, UTTAD isn't even number 1...usually BTCS is.acousticraven wrote:Under the Table & Dreaming Put The Band On the Map bro

I agree, that song has a bit of everyone's input into it.. which shows the true music talent of the band.. but all & all.. all their songs kick ass hands down.. except "I Did It" .. damn that producerfatjack wrote:because the dreaming tree is superior to both those songs in both instrumentation and compositionDmbFanJason wrote:...why would you pick dreaming tree over Ants or Tripping Billies? I'm all for Baroche, but I pretty much agree with David St. Hubbins (i think that's how you spell it, of Spinal Tap) on the Little Worlds introduction:mbgreen wrote:Great symphonies are described as being a masterpiece. Bach, Beethoven...they wrote masterpieces.
"I don't like classical music, it's like they forgot how to improvise."
^something to that effect, haven't listened to the intro in a while
