Warehouse Help

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Warehouse Help

Unread post by matts420music » Tue Nov 14, 2006 10:20 am

Alright I'm not sure how to explain this.... I have been playing guitar for a little over 2 years and can play a good amount of DMB songs. But, I have had a huge problem playing warehouse. I can strum and mute all the notes to the song but I can never get it to sound right. Any tips on the timing, or how many times i should be hitting each note. Any tips at all would be appreciated

Ugh.....I'm going to make the same response I made to this the first time it was posted, just so matts420music doesn't get misled.

This is good as an instructional clip, but unfortunately, it teaches you the wrong rhythm for the song. Get the video that was referenced. If you need me to, I can upload it.

.

The notes all start on the downstroke. Hold on, let me upload the video in question.

edit: nvmd, I don't have the ability to upload a 300mb+ file.

I realized today after watching the video that was mentioned earlier, if you position your hand the way dave does for the walk down, it makes it a hell of a lot easier to mute the strings. Basically, your fingers are more flush with the fretboard that way. I can post a video of what I'm talking about if someone really needs more explanation.

If you count the song in 4/4 time, he accents beats 2 and 4. Beat 2 is 3rd note of the walk up, and beat 4 is the first down of the down/up down/up mute. The second time through, during the full walk down, there is no accent on beat 4.

Yes, you pretty much mute all 6 strings on the mute.

here is the first part of Warehouse from Listener Supported slowed down to 1/2 speed. This seems to make it easier to hear exactly what Dave is doing.
