I can't seem to sing and play...
Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone else has or in the past had a problem singing and playing at the same time. I practice, but I can't really sing and play. It's kinda funny actually, I can play a song pretty damn good on my guitar, but when I throw my voice in, I lose the damn rythmn. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Thanks for any replies.
That's how it was once I started trying to do that. Now, it's a piece of cake. I made sure that I could play a song 100% through while like watching TV and talking to someone.
My guitars:
Taylor 714
Taylor 614ce
Martin Sigma DR-41
Epiphone Chet Atkins SST (Ebony)
Danelectro 56-U2 reissue
Fender American Deluxe Strat
Fender Aerodyne Telecaster
BC Rich Eagle Custom

Just a bit of info as its been given to me. Apparently it is much harder to learn how to play and sing the longer you've been playing guitar without singing. That's just something I was told, not too sure about the truth to it. I suppose that the earlier you pick it up, the easier it will be though.

it sort of came naturally to me so i may not have the best advice. but if i can give any sort of advice it's to pick a song that has a very basic rhythm, not only in chord changes but in strumming pattern and start w/ that. make sure it's full chord so yo udon't have to worry w/ hard chords or muting, and never let your strumming hand stop strumming. it shouldn't stop for any reason.
also, you could take a basic full chord song, say G C D for example, and hum the melody. once you have that down, start putting words in. make sure you know the words well so you don't have to worry w/ reading them.
do everything in small steps and one day it'll hopefully just click. good luck.

Best advice is to just practice and one way I dealt with this problem is to just hum the song outloud, meaning dont actually say the words just hum the notes, that way your not so worried about pronunceciacion of words. God I have no idea how to spell that word! LOL! Im an idiot!
