Just write about what you think about most or whats bothering you whats making you happy or mad or whatever. There always seems to be one piece of inspiration that sparks like 20 songs out of you just try and find it.

Any don't worry if your songs all sound like shit at first, thats always the way it is. And keep a tape recorder handy so you can record your ideas without forgetting them.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

lyrics first. definetly lyrics first. then build a progression, then converth that progression to barre and use the barre nots as a scale for your oicked part and soloing. have fun

i dissagree i think its much easier to write the music first then add the lyrics that way you have a format to write by

i always write the music first. That way the words go with the music instead of the music going with the words. Songs dont sound very complex (couldnt find the right word) when the rythm of the words and music are exactly the same.

I think it's different for everyone.

I write poems and well my poems are comprised of about 25 crappy poems with bits and pieces that I actually like out of the 25 crappy poems.

Some of the best things I've come up with lyrically have been while strumming and thinking and then writing down bits and pieces here and there.

it's neat to find a process. I'm not a very good guitarist so the lyrics are generally first with me.

do we have a lyric area at this site?
