Muting in general

Unread post by mattahews » Sun Jun 01, 2003 8:29 am

I've been playing for about a year, and I find muting a lot. I've basically started muting in my own way, buy resting a finger over the strings. But when I watch dave play, he plays the songs much differently than I do. Does anyone know how he performs his muting?

Its his own way of playing... I find it extremely hard to play the same as him.. he just has a totally different way of playing then me.. if I were you, if your muting works, use your muting...

I would just get confused watching videos of dave playing. He seemed to be making the work much harder for himself, and I didn't know if I was doing anything wrong.

I personally find his style of playing hard to play along with... I only listen to dmb usually.. so listening to him play isn't bad, just playing along with a video throws me off since I play songs different then him..

it may seem a lot harder to you, but I guess it's just the way dave grew up playing, I mean he's been playing for a while now, and I think his style is just the style he is most comfortable with.

the way i mute is a combination of palm-muting and just not pushing chords down all the way. i guess what i do is push down notes and chords on the beat they need to be played, then release the pressure on the muted stroke and palm mute. muting is really subjective. if you get the sound right, dont worry about how you do it.
