what tha fuck do you think scales are?Sciaracastro wrote:It comes from the fact that most times ppl that know theory and essentials have been playing more than ppl dont know that stuff...Beauford33 wrote:okay, Id like you to find some that knows theory and essentials, and find someone that doesnt (not too hard around these parts) and have them play something out of feeling. I will bet an incredible amount that the person with the knowledge of theory will sound like god next to the other person. Im all for "feeling", but you should understand something so you can express yourself the best way.Sciaracastro wrote:I dont think you really need to learn theory and essentials...It's important to find your way of playing, and this could even be opposite to the theory...Beauford33 wrote:yea, it is. but its important to find the most efficient way to express your feelings. You can be pissed, pick up a guitar with little knowledge and play something "okay". learn theory and the essentials and have a feeling and express that on a guitar with the knowledge, you will be amazing.Sciaracastro wrote:Yeah, things like counting, writing music, etc. are very important...but many ppl concentrate on those things, forgetting that music is FEELING first of all...Beauford33 wrote:just the fact people ignore a simple tool like countingi like tictacs wrote:because of tab? that post was hard to decipher.
I meant that u dont need to know theory to play...u just need to know some scales and u can even create your own stuff...Beauford33 wrote:yea opposite of theory=ignorant guitarist that deams of making it big, but never bothers to look at something other then tabs.
The example are The Beatles...they sucked in playing and they didnt know much theory...but they create something new...and it was VERY GOOD...
Anyway, I'm for theory too...I have been studying classical music (not very much...but i did and i got the essentials!)
Do u always count timing out?

are you fucking kidding me? the beatles sucked in playing and didn't know anything about theory? george harrison is one of the most innovative guitarists ever, he knew what he was doing. he didn't just pull shit out of thin air...Sciaracastro wrote: I meant that u dont need to know theory to play...u just need to know some scales and u can even create your own stuff...

Scales are just a little part of theory...

I'm not saying that the beatles and george harrison were shits and that they didnt know what were they doing...I'm just saying that they just knew essentials and most of their songs were quite simple...and that is enough to play very good songs...i really like the beatles anyway!fatjack wrote:are you fucking kidding me? the beatles sucked in playing and didn't know anything about theory? george harrison is one of the most innovative guitarists ever, he knew what he was doing. he didn't just pull shit out of thin air...

either way, i still dont think that you really understand what theory is. You dont need a knowledge of theory to create music, but theory applies to all music. so your phrase "the opposite of theory" is really quite ridiculousSciaracastro wrote:Scales are just a little part of theory...

I just wrote bad...I meant that u can create something revolutionary that could be very very very different from the music already exists...fatjack wrote:either way, i still dont think that you really understand what theory is. ...listen...Jimi Hendrix played w/ his guitar reversed, Kurt Cobain could play only few chords, and I can continue citing Slash or Jimmy Page...they all didnt know the "classic" theory, but does their music sux?!
Peace

I personally would love a list of time signatures. I'm attempting to get into odd meters (so I can start a Meshuggah cover bandBeauford33 wrote:Im so damn close to e-slapping you right now.filmdude100cms wrote:i know, but were talking BK, he thinks everything is 4/4i like tictacs wrote:counting can get a bit more tricky then going to four
if anything, I thought you would have said 12/8
Ive been thinking about making a Comprehensive list of all Daves songs and their time signatures. Unfortunatley, they would just appear as useless fractions to most people

well, I can give the time signaures, but that would do little. I could give some time signatures and a list of songs that have those sigs.StarSlight wrote:I personally would love a list of time signatures. btw, going out and thinking "this song is gonna be an odd time, cause I need soemthing idfferent" wont work out like you think.

so you are saying theory only applies to music that has already been done or isn't creative?Sciaracastro wrote:I just wrote bad...I meant that u can create something revolutionary that could be very very very different from the music already exists...fatjack wrote:either way, i still dont think that you really understand what theory is.
