i have a set of a few songs mostly from crash on back to remember two things
i want to sing them for ppl and have a good time with them but how when where do i play?
it seems ppl get bored hearing just a person sing on accoustic.

I think that's true to a point. Some people are in to it. I've played gigs where I have had everyone's attention, and ones where 50% were doing their own thing and not really paying attention. I've got writing setlists down to a science. If you're playing Dave covers, you can't go:
I'll Back You Up
Crash
Let You Down
Stay Or Leave...
or you will put people to sleep, unless they're die hard DMB fans, or girls. You need to mix it up.
I write a setlist, then I write an S next to a song that is slower, and an F next to a song that is faster or more upbeat. Then I rearrange the songs. If I have two S's in a row, I throw and F in there. I also try to pepper my set with covers, but not play more than 20-25% covers. You have to get your originals out there too.
I am trying to get a band together. A band is much more appealing that a solo acoustic performer to the masses.

i played one set for one girl on a perfect night
ants
original (fast song)
stay or leave---> (stnd tunning)
crash
two step
original (slow)
Billies
got me laid
it was really fun and i want to share with others and have a good time. i just cant find the right time or anything.
i want to start a band too but everyone around here is not very good at all and if they are they have no writing ability. they are restricted to sheet music which pisses me off way too much

if your doin dave, stay or leave is a nice way to come in, and seek up is a good way to leave.... what i do, is i dont try to let songs in the same key go right after each other, billies is in a, so i would want to go to crush that is in b, and so on and so forth, and if you do what i did wher to go in order, a-b-c-d-e-f-g, it really really builds excitement and anticipation and what not, until you can bring it on home with the song in g. even if you have some slow songs in there, as long as you switch keys for everysong itll be very interesting and pleasing to watch....
infact phish did this, back in the 90's when they would play for 90 or so minutes straight, every song would be a step higher until the end when the anticipation had built and everyone was goin crazy.

Actually, with that progression you should end on A. Basic rules of a cadence, man. Though I'm not sure if it would be appreciated or noticed as much when you're playing a setlist like that. Eh.

i have no idea, i was basically just usin it for example purposes, cause i dont really like know the keys for dave songs, just dont think about them for some reason, but i mean if you wanna open with billies, see its something id do, cause i have an original that uses the nature intro form, and end on that... sooooo thats just me...Jer1400 wrote:Actually, with that progression you should end on A. and jon, im 14, please dont call me good sir, creeps me out

If you dont have that knowledge you might want to start learning theory. Basic theory is extremely easy to teach yourself. Makes composing music tons easier with the knowledge of scales. Its also the first step in learning improvistation. Just scales. Makes the simpliest thing sound amazing.JonTheSpaceMan wrote:lack of musical knowledge here. i dont know keys, notes, scales, or anything other than "hey that sounds cool"

I didnt learn from the internet i bought a book. But the most basic thing i know you can find is scales and modes. Look up the Penatonic or Blues scale. That is what I use the most when soloing and improving. The book I use is called Playing Guitar Scales by Peter Pickow. Of course there is more to theory than just scales, scales are the most basic part of it. After scales you can learn how to create chords and all.Its pretty cool once you get the hang of it. Though I'm sorry i cant tell you any specific sites.
