SOLID TOP?

SOLID TOP?

how do i ttell if i have a solid top?
its real wood on the outside im sure

and i have another crappy guitar that is obviously not real wood

i look by the sound hole and i can see that the top is clearly all wood, but it looks like maybe theres 2 peices of wood glued together..hmm

help, im clueless

a solid top is two peices of the same wood joined down the middle. Some cheaper guitars may use 3-4 pieces of the same board(or different, hopefully not...). The solid top definatley sounds better, but
a none solid top can still sound OK-good, if you have good construction-

Having solid back and sides is not quite as important, but is still nice to have-

sorry i forgot, to tell if you have a solid top look at the grain of the wood and if it is flowing on each side, then you have a solid top-

well its hard to explain, but does all the grain go in a similar direction(on each side). Like this guitar :

see how the wood sorta streaks up and down. If this wasnt a solid top a peice would definatley stick out as a different sorta pattern.

it is best to ask a salesperson, becuase its hard to tell on alot of tops. definatley ask-

I have a martin DX1, it definetly has a solid top, cause it says it does and i can tell it does, but it doesn't look like two peices of wood togehter.. it looks like one big ass peice of solid spruce..

alright, now that i look REALLY closely, it is two identicle peices of spruce.. nice glue job is all i have to say:-p
