how do i ttell if i have a solid top?
its real wood on the outside im sure
and i have another crappy guitar that is obviously not real wood
i look by the sound hole and i can see that the top is clearly all wood, but it looks like maybe theres 2 peices of wood glued together..hmm
help, im clueless

a solid top is two peices of the same wood joined down the middle. Some cheaper guitars may use 3-4 pieces of the same board(or different, hopefully not...). The solid top definatley sounds better, but
a none solid top can still sound OK-good, if you have good construction-
Having solid back and sides is not quite as important, but is still nice to have-

sorry i forgot, to tell if you have a solid top look at the grain of the wood and if it is flowing on each side, then you have a solid top-

well its hard to explain, but does all the grain go in a similar direction(on each side). Like this guitar :crash_in_to_me wrote:hmmm... what do you mean, flowing?juineaux wrote:sorry i forgot, to tell if you have a solid top look at the grain of the wood and if it is flowing on each side, then you have a solid top-

see how the wood sorta streaks up and down. If this wasnt a solid top a peice would definatley stick out as a different sorta pattern.
it is best to ask a salesperson, becuase its hard to tell on alot of tops. definatley ask-
