Is there any other Dave fans out there who are upset over the fact that Dave is now bringing those Taylors around with him? I may just need a venting session, but the entire reason that I purchased a Martin, aside from the underlying reasons, was the fact that "The Man" played one. Loyal Dave fans UNITE! Let us all vent together...

That's really too bad that you bought a guitar based on who else plays it. I'm sure he plays the Taylor because that's what he likes to play now. I think it sounds better than the Martin.

Taylors and Martins are both great guitars. It's the player that makes them special.

Which is to say, no matter which one I had, it'd be ... eh.

ok, I'll ride your wave here. Personally, I prefer the sound of Martin guitars over the Taylor guitars - I just think they have better tone all around. Martin guitars seem to have something (other than just great sound) that the Taylors do not have, I don't know what it is - I can't put my finger on it. The Taylors generally are more "user friendly" better action and whatnot, but I'd be more satisfied with a Martin than a Taylor. I'm a loyal dave fan and I also want the Martin to return.
the Taylor is a girly guitar. The Martin suits Dave better

Grave, usually I support my fellow Canucks...but this statement is just ignorant.
Both are great guitars, no dispute there. Some prefer Martin some prefer Taylor. Oviously is Dave feels that he wants to play the Taylor, there has to be a reason for it...in other words he wouldn't play them if they sucked.
I prefer Taylor but I wouldn't bash Martins.
Also, Paisanpride, you bought a guitar for completely the wrong reason if it was soley because "the Man" played one.
Peace,

ok it was ignorant , and I respect you for being honest cavecricket. ok, I"m jealous of people who have a Taylor - because they're magnificent guitars truly. It's hard to find one that doesn't sound great. It's a lot easier to find a bad sounding Martin.
A Taylor is even on my Christmas List

I wouldn't mind a Martin guitar....but I did not like the hd-28 I tried....I was expecting it to be a sweet guitar but I think it was a dud...

yeah, I played a D-28 at a shop in Connecticut and my Art & Lutherie sounded better. I think it was a dud too. but I played a HD-35 at Guitar Centre and I fell in love with it....I also fell in love with a Taylor 12 string there - damn that thing was beautiful to play for having 12 fuckin' strings on it. !@!

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but whenever dave plays solo or with Tim, he usually uses a martin. Whenever he plays with the band, he usually uses a taylor. I think this just dates back to the chet and why he used it. As most people agree, the martins have more bass which i personally prefer, and the taylors have better treble and playability. As everyone knows, Dave used the chet to "cut" through the thick sound of his fellow band mates.

I think he used Taylors when he did some recent solo stuff. I know he did at the last Farm Aid. I guess we'll have to see when the tour starts. Actually I'm gonna see if I can find out....don't know my chances but I'll see if I can ask around...
As for Taylor 12 Strings.....they are the best 12's around (out of all the ones I've tried)....even "the Man" said they play the best he has ever tried. I played them and I know I will get one (eventually)
Peace,
