Yeah i know what you mean. I was just sitting there with my brother and my cousin playing guitar. So we decided to get out the camera and record it. My brother was just kinda messing around with some licks....It does seem busy at some times.
Cheers,
Jack
I think i might post up my lovely spanish song.. let everyone rip it to shreds lol I get laryngitis every-time i perform the damn thing.

I like it. It does sound busy but i dont think its an arranging problem. The parts are cool, its really just a mixing problem related to the one mic on the camera. If you could get everything on separate tracks and pan those fills hard left and the other acoustic just a little right, voice down the middle, this would sound great. Like i said about the original, i think you sing this with a great amount of passion.
Glad to see you stuck around after the "baptism by fire" you won't regret it.

Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

Thanks very much! I have a digital recorder but i needed a couple wires before i could record on it. Its actually quite nice. Its like a little mixing board and has a bunch of inputs and effects. Now all i have to do is figure out how to use it. I'm terrible with it now....But thanks for the support i appretiate it.

boonie wrote:It doesnt sound very much different, it still sounds like a Dave cover. "sister chained and bound" I mean seriously at least vary the lyric
I made a bunch of chord changes. And "Brothers Sisters chained and bound screaming"
Minarets is "Sister chained and bound bleeding" Now i understand the lyrics are similar. But how else do you explain how actual brothers and sisters were chained together on slave boats. It seems like theres no other way to explain it. "Brothers and sisters are chained to each other and to the boat and they are screaming" I think you are right it sounds similar.
But its one line. If that one line ruins the song for you. I'm sorry. It's something i have trouble changing. I wrote the lyrics without music. I sat down and wrote 2 pages of lyrics. I had to cut out a couple verses. Its hard to capture the pain and agony of a slaves trip to slavery and his life during it in a song. Listen to it. For me its not a song its a story. This guy is wondering if hes ever gonna see his home and his family again. Meanwhile his slave owner beats his sister. Hes wondering if god could excist if those horrible things could happen.
Its really emotional and you have to play it with passion. Its Challenging but i enjoy it. The song is poweful. Its not daves words. They are my words, Its from my heart and mind.
I understand what you're saying but the fact is, you barely changed the line and the song melodically and chordally and rhythmically and every other way bleeds Dave, add lyrics to that, to me it sounds like you just put your guitar in drop D played with the Bartender and DDTW chords for about 5 minutes, then sat down and revised some of the ideas in Minarets and DDTW and your song was done.SRVDMB wrote:boonie wrote:It doesnt sound very much different, it still sounds like a Dave cover. Shit man, music is an oral tradition. Borrowing is just part of it, get over it. Do you think dave never took someone else's words?boonie wrote:It doesnt sound very much different, it still sounds like a Dave cover. "sister chained and bound" I mean seriously at least vary the lyric
"Drive me to distraction" is a line from "On the road" by Jack Kerouac. Does that make Two Step a bad or evil song? Of course not.
Thom Yorke from Radiohead has repeatedly said that he steals everything from REM. No one grows up in a vaccum, we all have influences and they will come out eventually.

Yeha but Dave didnt put the Jack Kerouac line in a book with similar subject matter. This songs just not original and there is no getting around it. IT's one thing to take a line or a chord change, but make it your own, dont take everythingRunsWithBuffalo wrote:Shit man, music is an oral tradition. Borrowing is just part of it, get over it.
