Let You Down
I dont know why, but for some reason i cant play let you down right
i get the chords right, but with the strumming pattern dave uses its hard not to hit the strings open when switching chords. it sounds really bad when this happens, and im looking for a way to correct it
any suggestions?

Everybody always asks me how she's doing. Has she really lost her mind? I said "I couldn't tell you, I've lost mine."

the album version is weird...what we're hearing I'm sure is tim because on all lillywhite dmb albums minus the fan-titles lillywhite sessions, just about all of the guitar we here is tim, because dave does not sound like that live...the strumming is so clean that it sounds almost fingerpicked, but it just isn't...very weird...always been a bit of a puzzle to me...I just fake it...

2-14-97 Dave and Tim in Mobile,Al. Check out that version.johntherevelator wrote:I dont know why, but for some reason i cant play let you down right

The first cuple of strums are real short then one hard one.
Thats my fav. version of that song, also the one which I play.
If you need I will b&p it for you.
I'll be honest....If I do ever get up EVERY song on this site in video form, Let You Down would have to be the last one I ever did. I swear, for some reason to me...it's the hardest rhythm ever. Try watching the 2/2/97 video of Dave's right hand. It's one of the craziest things ever. That specific song on video, is one of my favorites of ALL time. Dave whistling and saying he can't do it like Leroy(like he does a lot). Just wathcing how he strums that right hand is mesmorizing. I guess practice, I can usually get it for like 1 time through then get messed up after that. Oh well....peace

um. The tab on this site is correct for the song. the strumming pattern is tricky - on each chord it goes down up down up down with a big emphasis on the last down strum. and on the "I have no lid upon my head..." there's two (down down) strums to each chord but then it goes back to the 5 strums on each chord on the 7-x-5-7 chord and so on.just42night wrote:I was looking at the tab for this song on here, and what Dave plays at the formentioned show 2-14-97 is different. Goes something like this.
G-D-A-B7, no barrs just reg cords. Hopefully that makes it a little easier for you all.

B---10-------9-------x-----x------x----
G---x--------x-------8-----9------7-----
D---7--------9-------9-----7------6-----
A---9--------7-------x-----x------x------
E---x--------x-------7-----9------9------

I've always thought it was a pretty easy one to play, I picked it up fairly quickly, unfortunately I don't have any advice for you guys other than to just wait for jkanter to post a video of it, assuming he has a video of Dave playing the song.
And man, it's one of my favorite songs, too. It's so underrated.
