quick question
im goin back to pittsburgh for xmas vacation and was gonna take my guitar. not my taylor, but my old pos. all i have for that is a gig bag. its padded pretty well but still a gig bag. i was wondering if this would hold up for the flight. im calling tomorrow to find out how the handle guitars. i will take it on if possible but at the least gate-check it. even if i do this do u think it will be fine in a gig bag?

im pretty sure that theres a petition to airlines saying that a guitar should be carry on. ive read it but i dont know where it is.

it's best if you have a hardshell, but it also depends on the airline. some restrict your carry-on luggage to a certain size for safety precaution, etc, but you should most definitely call and check.

maybe it would be better if i did take my taylor? at least that is in a hardshell. im worried about the cold tho. if i do have to gate-check it, im pretty sure they dont heat the cargo area. would the cold effect it too much even if its in its case?
EDIT: would any damage caused be covered by the warranty?

can you put the other POS guitar in the taylor case. that'd be a good bet.
then again, i would even say you'd have better luck with the gig bag, because the flight attendants will be less likely to make you put it below because it is more fragile than the case.
by no means should you check a guitar, i'd say you have about a 50/50 chance of something getting broken that way. just be really nice to the flight attendants (don't call them stewardesses) and act like it's no big deal that you are bringing a guitar. if try to be one of the first there and sit near the back of the plane, there is usually more storage space at the back, and some planes have a little cubby place for hanging luggage where you could tuck the guitar away.
read the site that isaac posted, and DO NOT bring the taylor if you have another guitar that can go in it's place.
