A Christmas Gift...

Unread post by ticohans » Thu Dec 18, 2003 12:27 am

Hey folks, so I'm back for like two minutes before popping out again. Sorry I haven't been here more often. It's been a crazy rough semester for me here at school and continues to be so, and I've cut a lot of things out of my life. Anyway, I recently gave "One More Night" a little more recording effort, and it's probably the best thing I've done yet.

Recorded in a couple hours one afternoon on a friends computer. Did two main guitar tracks and picked the best one. Did two main vocal tracks and picked the best one. After listening to the two tracked together, it became apparent that the timing was just a hair off at the end, and we decided to punch in over the last bit of the guitar track. Then did one harmony take. That was all we were planning on doing and we both had to get going, but I wanted to hear what my friend, who plays electric guitar, would do with it. So I told him to just fiddle around with tyhe track as he pleased and to let me know when he had worked something out. He ended up laying down a few noodling little lines and a bass line, and they're absolutely fantastic. I didn't give him any guidance at all in terms of what I wanted, and the stuff he came up with is just sick. I love it, and I can't usually say that about my recordings.

the link as always is: http://www.davidson.edu/personal/halarson/home.htm

Right click on the link and select "save target as..." Any and all feedback is welcome, although I can't promise I'll respond right away.

I hope to be back here more often and check out the new stuff that other people are putting up.

Hey Tico , long time no see man , get back more often eh

I absolutely love this recording , the fills your friend did was great , your vocals as always is just AMAZING , and let me just tell you that this song ( your old recording as well as the new one ) have a very certain impact on me , as it brings back alot of memories , the best time of my life but at the same time it is currently very hurtful , for the same reasons .

Great song , its awesome , its catchy , and it has rhythm :) Nice job bro

PS How is it going with tabbing out your older songs ? Can't wait to see it

i remember hearing the first one and thinking it was great...this one was even better. enjoyed it a lot, though there's a little more to be desired in the lyrics, but i'm not sure what exactly, possibly some more substance, but i'm sure that'll subside. the fills were excellent, the harmonies were right on, and everything was great.

8.5 out of 10 chopsticks!

interesting to say the least...

the song was played very well and your voice was spot on. i'm not gonna say anything about the song itself because its really not to my taste, so i'll just tell you about quality things that noticed.

first, your voice had WAY too much reverb. it sounded like you were singing in an empty cathedral. also, the electric guitar had a little too much as well, it sounded like it was far in the distance and it seemed a little muddy as well

fat, i know it's not your taste. probably far too "sappy" or something like that. :)

and i agree about the reverb. my friend was the one that mixed things down, and he got a little heavy handed on it.

That was really good, I cant recall listnening to any of your other covers cuz its been a while but I guess I forgot that you are pretty damn good. Your voice sounded great and I really like the fills your buddy came up with, hope stuff slows down with you so you can come back more often and post more stuff.

First off I really love this song alot :D
I think the recording quality is great everything fits nicely together.

But, I kinda liked your old demo version better. The old version had a faster tempo, the harmonies were louder, and the guitar part seemed different. Although, the new tempo may be more fitting for the lyrics and mood of the song. These are just little small things, I really liked the song.

I liked it...alot... good stuff

except..it was a little too short....i've always thought this though, it has so much potential, i think you should extend it a bit

I didn't like the electric all that much, not cause im not an electric fan, cause i am.. it just seemed like it was being played in a fishtank..

i almost didn't recognise...'these demons, they are catching at my soul....'
it seemed different, it sounds phenomenal.

cut the fishtank electric and the extra reverb on the vocals and you're golden.

"GIMME JUST ONE MORE NIIIII-AH-HIIIIIGHT PLEEEE-EEEEEZ."

Dude Tico...this is your best song bra. I dont really see what the others on talkin about in their critiques but I dont know shit about all those effects stuff anyway. listening to the opening honestly gave me the chills. I showed my brother your song and he looked astonished that it was just some dude on DmbTabs. HA, anyway, like I said, keep doing what you're doing and making songs like that one....then good luck, and don;t forget the little people at DMBTABS!!!!!!!!
