busted stuff (the song)

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

busted stuff (the song)

Unread post by flandaneran » Thu Mar 22, 2007 12:51 pm

Busted stuff the song rather than the album… I hear a really cool effect in this song that, to me, sounds like a mxr phase 90. is that on dave’s guitar, the keyboard, the bass? People often say that dave never uses effects but I think that there are a lot of effects that go into the everyday album, for instance. I hear chorus and distortion on the space between and I know that’s delay on some devil.

Also, when you guys play busted stuff, do you play a standard tune version or that crazy tuning that is on the web sight? It is one of my favorite and underrated songs.

The effect he used is a Line 6 POD I believe, it gives the guitar a real scratchy almost record player kinda sound. He used it on a couple songs during the LWS. And yes Busted Stuff is an underrated song. I always play it in standard tuning, don't really feel like taking the time to keep changing tunings just to play one song.

I also play it in standard. Hey does anyone know if Dave ever plays it in standard, or does he always use the alternate tuning?

is that on dave’s guitar, the keyboard, the bass?
You aren't talking about a wah pedal, are you? That's what it sounds like he's using starting at the 0:45 second mark on the album version. I'd say it's more likely to be that than a Line 6 Pod.

I am assuming he plays it in the alternate tuning because the site tabs are taken directly from videos.

Well, the site tabs have not been updated in a while. I think I recall a post a while ago that said they saw Dave play it in standard tuning, since he never switched guitars. So maybe he didn't feel the need to have a guitar specifically for one song. Who knows?

Yeah it would be a pain to switch guitars for just one song and then switch back for the next.

thanks for the Polite replies. Dave playing in different tunings has always been interesting to me because I never see him tune. What I mean is I’ve seen him do crush live (obviously drop D) but I didn’t see him touch the tuning heads or use a different guitar. I just don’t get it.

In busted stuff, I’m talking about a swirling speaker sound. To me, it kinda sounds like a phaser but im sure you guys are right about that line six.

i don't know even know that he does that with tim anymore. when i saw d&t in '99 he tuned it himself for crush. i'm pretty sure he switches guitars for each song that isn't standard now a days. that's what monk is for.
