All I see being talked about on these boards are Martins & Taylors, Martins & Taylors, Martins & Taylors, and Martins o& Taylors (with a little Alvarez from Fatjack).

Come on guys

! There have to be other guitars you guys like. I have said that I really like Guilds. Their arch top electrics are great, and I love both their drednaughts and 12 strings are very good.

what about you guys?

There are a lot of great guitars out there (imo some better than Martin or Taylor, gasp!). Breedlove, Lakewood, Froggy Bottom, Santa Cruz, Sexauer all kinds of little shops that do outstanding work. It baffles me why people would spend 2,000$+ on a guitar because their favorite artist plays a guitar made by the same company when they could get a custom made guitar built to their exact specifications for the same price. To each their own. Not to say that Martin and Taylor don't make quality guitars because they certainly do there are many other outstanding guitars out there.

i really like ibanez, only their customer support absolutely sucks. i mean actually they just don't have any customer support at all. this is like my main guitar is an ibanez and that thing rocks. (of course i have tweaked it a considerable amount)

some of those old guilds you could use as a battle axe in the middle ages and then jam a little after kicking some ass. actually i bet some of them were used as battle axes. i mean those things are like whoa.

i am currently "borrowing" a fender 12 string for "an indefinate period of time" which means i am hoping the guy that lent it to me never asks about it. It is a really solid guitar with good projection and reverb.

taylors feel really dainty! i might buy a grand auditorium though cuz they are nice and i like dainty sometimes but still all the taylors i've played just don't feel as powerful as i'd like.

If you ever get the chance to play a Bourgeois (especially their Country Boy Deluxe's or JOMC's) you will be overwhelmed. I used to think my Cocobolo Taylor sounded as good as a guitar can sound until I played a few of these. They just opened my eyes up to what a guitar should sound like. Santa Cruz also makes some great guitars, but I have been very underwhelmed by the Collings I have played. They all sounded very "tight", maybe they just take a while to open up, who knows? But my next purchase is going to be a Bourgeois dread. Ever since I played one I have that "must own!!" feeling.

One a side note, I don't know how many of you read my post about the Blueridge I bought, but I have to add that I continue to be amazed by how good this guitar sounds. I just can't fathom a guitar under $1500 bucks sounding better than this one. It's the best "beater" I've ever seen, and it's funny because I keep catching myself babying it like my Taylor cause it really doesn't feel or look like a beater. I might end up taking better care of it than my other guitars that cost 5 times more just cause I like this one so much. It sounds a lot like a Bourgeois or Santa Cruz. By that I mean it has that very "open", clear, and cutting projection that I like in a mahogany guitar. Definitely not a bottom-heavy Martin.

i forgot about how much i love my other ibanez. i have a mini-ibanez that is pretty "tight" and "sharp", and the sustain sounds like i am using some compression already, and the pickup is way, way hot (it almost sounds like i have a mic cuz it picks up so much noise from like when i touch the top of the guitar or if i just fret a note it is already sounding through the pickup), but it is one of the best guitars i've ever played. it's like a 3/4's dread so it has the bass emphasis but it's small so the highs are all 'bout it. great for solos but still plenty of presence for rhythm work. i can wait to get a little age on it and maybe swap a different pickup or re-wire/re-set the one that's in there. it has a lot of potential.
