Dave and Martin
Hi,
I am a Dave fan, looking to buy a Martin guitar. I've played a ton, and have narrowed it down to a few. I was hoping some people would be able to give their input. I know that every guitar is different, and it's individual choice, but I'd love some extra input.
Martin D35 v. Martin HD35: I loved both guitars. The HD35 added more bass, where I thought the D35 had a more balanced sound. I loved the sound of the HD, but wasn't sure if anyone thought it was TOO much bass...especially since Dave has so much low strumming and picking. I am looking to get a pickup installed eventually, and don't want a muddled sound.
Martin HD28 - I didn't hear or feel much difference between the HD35 and HD28. They both had nice bass sounds (HD35 was the best I thought). Does anyone have an opinion on the difference between the D35 and the HD28. They are about hte same price, and I'm looking for a sound differnce, not a look (I know the 3 panel back of the 35, and the pearl inlay, etc.).
Thanks in advance!
Jimmy

HD28v
I have not played a HD28v, but have played the D28 and HD28. Is there much of a difference, and how so?
Thanks.
Jimmy
Thanks.

You might use thinner strings on the bass strings to make them less overpowering if you want to. Or use slightly thiker strings on the higher 3 to make them sound deeper.
Just a stupid guess. I don't know much about guitars.

I guess Tim usually uses gauge 10 and then switches the low E to gauge 12...fedelm wrote:You might use thinner strings on the bass strings to make them less overpowering if you want to. Or use slightly thiker strings on the higher 3 to make them sound deeper.

The only difference between the HD35 & the D35 is the Herringbone, that's it. The tonal differences you may have heared is simple, every piece of wood sounds different. You may play 2 D35's side by side, and they will sound slightly different.
My Gear:

-Crafter SGAE0038/N
-Larrivee Limited D40RW
-1974 Martin D-35 Sunburst!

Actually the D-35 has the "Standard X Bracing" while the HD-35 has the the narrower "Scalloped X Bracing". This would account for most of the tonal difference between the two models.magic2584 wrote:The only difference between the HD35 & the D35 is the Herringbone, that's it.
