#41

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

#41

Unread post by mikey69 » Sun Dec 14, 2003 1:50 am

Hey,

I've picked up #41, its such an amazing song. I love playing it, so percussive with all the mutes. Anyways, I've seen two ways to play it, the one on the site, and the other where they used Am, Bm, Em and the normal finish chord. They sound a little different, just wondering how everyone else goes about play this. Since the chord phrasing for this song, kinda hurt your fingers, its a hell of a strectch

You can technically play it any way you want....but I would suggest playing it the way on the site for a couple reasons. It wil help you stretch your hands out, it's great practice for other DMB songs, and it just sounds 1000000x better with the real chords.

BUT, if right now it's too hard for ya...the other way works

Yeah I figured i would stick to the way it is on here. It is great practice, and I like the sound much better as well. Thanks for your advice

Heres a way to be creative. I always play this intro when I play #41, which is based off of Tims part in the Crash version. It starts off not really stumming, more noodlng with 002410, then I slide the B and D strings to xx403x, then I noodle with a normal Em7 chord and play that whacked out D chord that dave likes to play, 054030. The next time I play this version of C I found on this lousy ametuer tab on another dave tab site a long time ago, x05533, as the first chord. I paly the second chord like A/D, 004230, and play the other two the same way as before. I play that cycle twice and then go to the main intro. Its all cool and melodic that way.

I like the tab on the site, I use it now and it sounds a lot better, and definately helps you get better at stretching.

I think only the intro is the stretch part, unless that's what you're referring to...

i bet this has been posted somewhere but does anyone know that little riff they would play with Bela et.al. it's sounds kinda celtic.

it's on 11/21/98 (starts @ 13:53ish) and 4/20/2002(@15:15). (sorry cuz both these are like 30 minutes long but when you hear the riff you'll know it)

I think you're talking about Sojourn of Arjuna's main riff. It goes something like this... the rhythm is really hard to tab out, cause hell, it's Béla Fleck.

Code: Select all

e--------------------7-----------
B-------------7h8-10-------------
G-----9-9-7h9-----------9-9-7h9--
D--/9----------------------------
A--------------------------------
E--------------------------------
