2 combo jazz recordings.

Unread post by Cor » Wed Feb 21, 2007 5:19 pm

My combo and I recently just got to hang out and play in my dorm's lobby just for backround music, but it turned out to be a really hot night for me and the group as a whole wasn't bad.

I'm uploading our versions of Coltrane's "Impressions", which I think is my personal best solo to date, and a Jimmy Smith blues tune called "Groovin' at Smalls"

My personal problem with it is that my comping was much too loud and too intrusive at times, but it's a lesson learned.

I have some others too, if you guys want to hear them
Miles- Solar, All Blues, and a 2:40 clip of Milestones
Chick Corea- Spain
Take the "A" Train
Stella By Starlight
Orginal by our bandleader- Broken Circle Bop
Clip of guitar solo from some unidentified tune w/ Duke Ellington ballad that I can't remember. (We were just Real Booking a lot of tunes that night)

Hope you enjoy them.

Impressions - Groovin! You guys sound really good. And smokin solo! I really enjoyed the solos. You guys are really talented. I can't say I've heard Impressions before (I'm somewhat of a jazz-newbie), but it sounded like you guys threw in some bits of So What in there. Good stuff. I really liked it!

Groovin' At Smalls - Again, haven't heard it before, but it sounded good my ears. Damn, again, great playing! You guys are great.

I really enjoyed those tracks. I've recently, just in the past year or so, got into jazz, and love it. Again, loved these tracks. It'd be fine with me if you posted those other tracks. :D

I'll up the others sometime soon. We did end up throwing that So What thing in there, cause Impressions and So What are the exact same key and form.

Thanks for listening, man.

Please tell your drummer feather the bass while keeping time on all four...and also not burry the beater when he uses the bass drum for accents. Small picky things, but in the end make a world of difference. Espcially not burrying the beater, or keeping the beater on the head after a note. He should hit the note, then immediatly take the beater off the head and not rest is on there. Espcially when playing jazz

Other then that, not bad

Sounds great! If you could upload All Blues, that'd be good as that is one of the few jazz songs i'm familiar with.

just listening to impressions. awsome stuff. I wish I knew how to play upright, (while we're talking about jazz) some kids at my school were practicing jazz band stuff in the hallway, and it was a trio, hollowbody guitar(didn't really notice how good he could play), upright bass, and piano, and it was really cool to hear good strong bass playing.
