actually, there's very few dave and tim songs that I really enjoy tim that much on...he sounds good in the studio w/ a producer telling him to play what sounds good, but live, ahhhh, no...not at all...one sweet world dave and tim is nice though...

A pox on you!!! That's a little Shakespearean diss.
All kidding aside I think Tim can have some pretty underwhelming solos but as a whole I think he adds an amazing amount of depth to Daves music. His solo on Recently from the Lost Acoustics is fucking amazing and it's live. There's plenty of other examples.

I think a key point thats being missed is that Dave and Time have a unique musical chemisty. I personally don't think any of the guitarist's you mentioned would mesh well with Dave at all. They may be "better" but that doesn't mean they could play with Dave and have chemisty. Santana is a wonderful guitarist but in a D+T setting he was completely outshined. It's very easy to find an affinity towards tim because of his beautiful work with dave -- we all (im sure) really like most of the work tim does with dave -- it's very cool... but im sure don ross, paco de lucia, and the rest of the gang could come up with equally beautiful stuff

yeah, I gotta admit to a degree, dave can be kinda hard to solo along to...some of his songs are just a little out there kinda like tim...MWR wrote:A pox on you!!! That's a little Shakespearean diss.

have you seen the live at austin city limits dvd of stevie??? the man plays damn near every bit of that dvd in pentatonic minor, and if you tell me that he isn't screaming out with passion through those notes, i'd be astonished...what other guitarist can play the pentatonic minor over and over and over and still make it sound so fucking awesome?? and stevie's rhythm is unbelievable, the 12 bar runs round in his head like a wheel, it's amazing that he always knows exactly where it is....and by the way, the man played 13's on his electricThe Man of The Hour wrote:Tim's ability to convey his thoughts straight to the guitar outweigh SRV's. I guess we all are judging from different perspectives.. may it be technical proficiency, style, originality, but that's how I see the "better" guitarist.
B+P by offer only...thank you

You have a good point, and I understand you love SRV for what he is. I am sure our thoughts won't persuade eachother to change our minds, so I am glad we both have people that amaze the hell out of us.Matty Boom wrote:have you seen the live at austin city limits dvd of stevie??? the man plays damn near every bit of that dvd in pentatonic minor, and if you tell me that he isn't screaming out with passion through those notes, i'd be astonished...what other guitarist can play the pentatonic minor over and over and over and still make it sound so fucking awesome?? and stevie's rhythm is unbelievable, the 12 bar runs round in his head like a wheel, it's amazing that he always knows exactly where it is....and by the way, the man played 13's on his electricThe Man of The Hour wrote:Tim's ability to convey his thoughts straight to the guitar outweigh SRV's. I guess I'd have to be on drugs to conflict with your logic. But that's alright, the only "legitimate" rules for being the better guitarist are formed by you, obviously, which is understandable. I'm glad you feel anyone who disagrees with you is either unintelligent or on drugs.mbgreen wrote:.....

I am bitching about all of the posts who refuse to let any other arguments in because they are so set on their own beliefs. This is a message board. Other opinions will come, and they are legitimate. People will disagree, but they aren't stupid for doing it, nor ignorant. Of course the majority is set on SRV. I am happy you all feel that way, I can see why you do. But to attack people based on their opinions is such an immature form of communicating.

You cant argue this point. Its not a matter of opinion. You might be able to argue that Tim has some technical proficiency over SRV (and I emphasize might,) but emotion?! You havent REALLY listened to Stevie making a statement like that. That guy bled through his guitar. The Man of The Hour wrote:Tim's ability to convey his thoughts straight to the guitar outweigh SRV's.
Tim Reynolds = local Virginia guitarist who Dave happened to really like. Take out the "who Dave happened to really like" part and you have a guy playing local gigs and working at guitar center giving lessons.
There's no answer for this other than a crack pipe.

exactly, this isn't a matter of opinion, anyone who really has a semblance of an idea of what they're talking about knows this is the case. Tim is no better than your average local guitarists. Both of my guitar instructors are as good or better than Tim technically, and the one that I've heard really solo in a manner that Tim would sounds so much better than Tim...again, that melody thing...the other guy is a classical guitarist, but you should see him fly...seriously, we're not making this crap up...Tim-Dave=local gig guitarist and guitar center instructor, mb is right on the money...mbgreen wrote:You cant argue this point.
