i bought this guitar about two months ago, and it's really playing well. When i changed my strings though, i noticed that a few...maybe 3 or 4 of the bridge pins had cracks/splits at the bottom.

my question is how the hell did that happen? did i tune my strings too high to cause such a crack? by the way the bridge pins are ebony. thanks

ebony pins are much more fragil than the plastic ones.

i remember when i went into the guitar shop with one of those plastic ones broken and the guys seemed really impressed that such a thing had occured.

you can get tusq pins which are even denser and stronger.

this is actually just something that happens. i don't think it is indicative of anything wrong with the guitar. if you have serious concerns, you can always bring it to a qualified tech.

My only thing would be buy new ones, cause if one of the pins splits while it's in the guitar, it could damage the guitar, or even worse, get stuck
