finger independence
well crappy title, i'm not real sure what to call it... but i've noticed when watching pretty much any professional musician they have pretty good independence between the ring and pinky finger on their fretting hand... i don't really know if this affect the playability, but i definitely lack this. whenever i play a chord where my pinky is used but ring finger is not my ring finger is still bent, if that makes sense. any exercises to work on this?

my guitar teacher could hammer on with his pinky & ring faster than I could with my index and ring...it just takes years of practice
try doing some hammer ons with only your ring and pinky...your fingers will get tired fast but that's a good way to start

That has helped me out so much. I started doing that and within a few months I was able to use my pinky so much more. Do hammer-on exercises using your index-to-pinky, middle-to-pinky, and your ring finger-to-pinky.p1trick_82 wrote: try doing some hammer ons with only your ring and pinky...your fingers will get tired fast but that's a good way to start
a good exercise is hammering on from "" finger-to- pinky up and down the fretboard on each string. And don't forget to practice with a metronome!
