Song Keys

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Song Keys

Unread post by EnFuego » Mon Dec 08, 2003 1:09 am

It seems to me like a lot of people around here are trying to learn theory and what not and have trouble finding out what key a song is in. Maybe Kanter could just add the key to a song at the top of the tabs for each song...that would be sweet. Just a thought.

Yes that could be a cool idea , you should it in the Suggestion section ;) But if im remembering correct it usually involves several keys in some Dave songs , i think there was an arguement about that some time ago , people couldn't really come to an agreement or something like that

yeah but you can still put the key above each section if there is a key change. (or a mode change in most cases) like in #41 when the verse is like in Em but the chorus is in G so if someone wants to solo or whatever over the sections, they use the same scale but only changing the tonic (the home-base note)
good, and you?

yeah, really once you know how to solo in a specific key, it is pretty easy to decide which one a song is in. i'm not sure this would help as much as some might hope. i just think it would be more trouble than it's worth.

FJ would have to help us with this.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

I wasn't forcing you to do anything, but given the fact that you are pretty much the chord and song key guru on this site, I was just saying that were we to go through with the project of finding the keys to some or all of the songs on this site for the purpose of jamming, it would benefit greatly from your musical wisdom and savvy.

Besides, finding the keys to songs is not all that difficult. You name a song I know how to play and I'll find the key without that much difficulty. Its the major/relative minor disputes that would be the main concern for those that really want to solo and be musically innovative with their favorite songs. For those that aren't obsessively trying to play like dave, this would be a major benefit.

Recently- G (verse) intro.chorus I am not so sure
Satellite- Ab
OSW- Eb
TSJL- C?
Minarets- E (harmonic minor? those are the middle eastern sounding ones.)
Seek Up- Dm, Chorus in A
IBYU- A?
Christmas Song- D
