you could at least try to give a better explanation than just "it sucks compared to" or "because it rocks"DmbFanJason wrote:chump, where the fuck does reasoning get you on these boards anyway? you're always gonna be right in your mind and I am in mine...plus, dreaming tree sucks compared to ants and the like...fatjack wrote:excellent pointDmbFanJason wrote:your mom.fatjack wrote: because the dreaming tree is superior to both those songs in both instrumentation and composition

Okay, I'm back from the corner with a really cool live version of pig I got from Kazaa that, except for kinda mediocre sound quality, is a very pretty song. One of Boyd's better days. Its from 5/5/98.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

I've been seeing this thread for a few days now, and have been thinking about it since, and after much contemplation, I've arrived at The Stone. It was hard to rule out Bartender, You Never Know, #41, and Pig, but in the end, I had to go with it. Here's why:
Beautifully complex verse riff that flows incredibly well with the lyrics. This riff then flows into a melodic chorus which in turn flows into an intense transition back into the verse. It's brilliant. Furthermore, the lyrics are, in my opinion, perhaps Dave's finest work (in contention with You Never Know and Pig). But what makes the lyrics all the more impressive so as to say that it's a masterpiece, is that they're respresentative of the music that's being played behind them. It's kind of hard to explain, but for example, the intricate verse riff is played while Dave ponders the gap between reality and perception, and then flows into the softer, more hopeful chorus, which then, with "but if not..." back into the more regretful verse. Also, each band member shines. As a matter of fact, in my opinion, I think The Stone is Stefan and Boyd's best song (Stefan no doubt but hard to say for sure with Boyd due to Warehouse and Dancing Nancies). Carter rocks, as always, Roi adds perfectly fitting fills, and of course, Dave's vocals and guitar are nothing short of masterful. While vocally, I think Dave's best song is Bartender, Carter's is Crush (live, particularly WH5 vol. 1), and Roi's is LIOG, but as a band, I say The Stone.

Crush is more of Stefans best song. He came up with that Marvin Gaye bassline, which is so damn catchy. I could hum that bassline for literally hours. It gives an already great song a groove it would never have otherwise. As for Carter, Drive in Drive out first comes to mind.

i only find save me to be uplifting during "you might try, saving yourself"... i think pig has it beat though with "come sister, my brotherrrrrrr!" that part gives me chills.MonteCristo wrote:Pig uplifting? I think Save Me is a real good one if your trying to get into a better mood.

You read my mind, thats pretty much what I'd say, except for Boyd I'd say that SUAD and Grace is Gone come pretty close. For Dave, the stone, Hands down. 41, especially live versions, is definitely roi's best.
