Larrivee L-03 vs Larrivee D-03

Unread post by AirBronto » Wed Dec 13, 2006 5:03 am

I have heard great things about both guitars.
What are all your thoughts about their contrasts in sound, usage, ext.
I am getting one of these and would like to know the differences.

Thanks

Yeah, i'm trying to decide between a L-03 or a OM-03

I'm going to the store to play some today or tomorrow. Should help.

From what I have read... the D is mainly for heavy strumming/flatpicking etc. I haven't read much about the L, but it appears to be in the middle of an OM and a D, which is why it is appealing to me. Not really sure though.

I'm sure Kahn could better answer your question.

IMO, the L is a little awkward shaped. I just dont like it physically, the rounded shoulders are reminiscent of a retard

The D03 is "boomier." I would say it sounds more like a martin with just a touch more treble. The L03 sounds a little thinner, more like a taylor. less bass and volume. I also dont like sitting down with the L, it doesnt sit as comfortable on your lap as the big D. Standing up is more comfortable though.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

I'm happy with my L-03R. It has rosewood back and sides which gives it a little more low end. I think the biggest thing about playing it is the nut width. It's a lot wider which makes it easier for fingerpicking, but a little tough if you use your thumb at all.

I bought my D-03 last summer and am very happy with it. I guess the comparable difference is in sound, the Lo-3 has I assume more treble response? Just play both and go for the one that give you a stiffie.

OM has a lot stronger mid section response which i guess is better for singer songwriter stuff but im not sure.

My OM is perfect for flatpicking bluegrass and folk stuff.

i played L and D today, and really liked them both. I would probably go with the D over the L though. I don't think I got a good enough feel for the OM yet.

i like OM over D for solo guitaring and singing. The reduced bass on OM doesn't tune out your voice as much as a D body does too. Just my opinion though. The shapes are pretty similar to each other otherwise though, except for the waist of course.
