Im just curious about how you guys are recording to get the best results. My apt. is wood floors in both the bedrooms and Im gonna have a decent mic/interface soon so Id like to get the best results when I record. I think the wood floors ect. might not be a good thing lol.

What do you guys reccommed? The living room is carpeted btw.

I personally have a horrible recording enviornment.

But I recall reading an article (or something) that was about his little recording section of his house. It was a small little alcove almost, that he hung blankets up on all the walls, and used cardboard under his mic area and chair. I don't know exactly how much all that helps you. But I suppose you can draw some things from it.

The blankets would help damnpen the echo around the mic to my knowledge, and I'm also assuming the cardboard did the same thing. I think the small the area can be good, but of course within reason. I really can't tell you for sure, but I do recall reading something about that recording enviornment.

Wood floors or a piece of wood under your mic stand is crucial

i have a crappy dorm room setup, but i try to make up for it by being smart.

close windows, draw curtains, turn off devices (other than your computer) that make ANY background noise (hums, buzzes, etc.), and oh - use a good mic haha.

i have carpeted floors and i still get it done though.

It's my drummer's setup...he has like 30 grand into the whole thing, there's obviously like a thousand mics and all that jazz, but that's a picture of the room...pretty sweet setup.

My drummer, Josh, is the guy in the reflection...he's the stereotypical fat guy drummer, and he's SICK.

:D

It's in the basement of a church, so every once in awhile, some old lady comes down like:

"The walking club is stretching upstairs, would you mind quieting down?!"

If you are recording in a bedroom, the bigger the better. Also, keep your mic away from walls and its a good idea to hang a blanket on the wall directly behind your mic to avoid reflection. Also, do anything you can to minimize noise cause a good mic can pick up anything.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

I go into my bathroom, but it's a decent sized bathroom. 12 by eight, maybe.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.
