excellent point

but your reasoning never seems to have any support other than phrases such as "dave rock" and the like...

I'm enjoying this thread. anyway, there is a difference between a Kick-Ass song and a masterpiece. I guess The Dreaming Tree being closer to a masterpiece and Ants Marching being the Kick-Ass song. Ants is the song that made me a DMB fan for life. the 5 best Dave songs are Ants, TB, The Stone, Warehouse, #41.

who knows, maybe Dave will write a symphony some day. :)
good, and you?

I'm all for Baroche, but I pretty much agree with David St. Hubbins (i think that's how you spell it, of Spinal Tap) on the Little Worlds introduction:

"I don't like classical music, it's like they forgot how to improvise."
^something to that effect, haven't listened to the intro in a while
Wasnt quite the point, but good quote. :)

I'd say Ants is more mainstream, doesnt make it a masterpiece. I'd say their best song is either the Stone, Dreaming Tree. Both have great music and lyrics. Ants has good lyrics too, but it doesnt have as much emotion put into it as the stone or dreaming tree has

haha- nice
the more i read this thread, i agree with the whole masterpiece being reserved for things like symphonies, but as for dave's best songs? fatjack has a good point with dreaming tree, so unique, you'll never hear anything like it, but then theres ants, which just has so much emotion and energy, so in conclusion - this will Never Be Resolved.

Ever.
oh well, still fun to debate :D :D :D

Pig?! Pig is the only DMB song I have never heard all the way through.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

agreed. now that im looking and thinking, masterpiece is too strong of a word. you look back over classical music, and i think someone made the joke about forgetting how to improvise, i think it's completely wrong. i mean look at people like mozart who almost always got everything correct the first time he wrote it....almost never made corrections. and people like beethoven who for the later half of his life wrote music deaf. and not just one piece either, not just one guitar solo or not even just one piano piece, but a full orchestra piece writing for every instrument in the song. rediculously talented compared to today's musicians. rediculously talented period. i just can't imagine the talent it takes to write for that many instruments and know what you're doing and making people rave for hundreds and hundreds of years after you die.

fatjack, i think you're right dude. dreaming tree is the closest you're gonna get to a masterpiece from DMB. but the stone and warehouse are close.

I completely agree. these guys are genius. completely genius! you may disagree, but this day in age, the closest you can get to a guy like that is john williams (writes the theme songs to like all the motion pictures) i don't konw if its just me, but i loved listening to the score to some of those movies. like jurrasic park, star wars, hook, stuff like that. he's one hell of a talented musician.

P.S. Appfro, its rIdiculous. not rEdiculous.

it's ok, i can't spell but im at least im willing to admit it :D

yea man, john williams is pretty awesome. not saying that there aren't musical geniouses nowadays that could probably pull out what they were doing back then, it's just now that it isn't pop music anymore so we won't see it. but yea, jw is great to listen to.
