string guage question

are yall sayin you have to adjust the truss rod if you change string size? i didnt know that. im not sure what my taylor came with, but ive been using d'addario lights since then. would that cause a problem?

No. The only reason you should touch your truss rod, at least in regards to strings, is if you change gauges of strings. With a gauge change, you create new tension on your neck that the truss rod may not be able to handle, so it could possibly damage your neck. THats bad mojo.

The big problem is if you go from lights to a heavier gauge. If you've been using lights all along, and dont have any buzz or action problems, don't worry about it.

paywad, if you have a taylor x12 or x14, it came with 12's. if you have a x10 or x15, it came with 13's.

Elixirs own for people that dont have money to buy new strings every week. I play everyday so uncoated strings dont last very long for me.

D'add coated last the same or longer than elixirs and cost about 1/3 of the price.

THey dont sound as good to me. I think Im gonna start using uncoated strings again though. I love John Pearse 80/20's.

I haven't tryed them myself yet , but i've heard that D'Addario last longer , so you might be right about that :) And yes they are a little cheaper too :)

thanks for all the replies guys!

actually, i just picked up a set of dean markley signature bronze lights. saw em at a swap meet in tennessee when i was down visiting, and since ranting thespian always raves about em i thought i'd give em a try.

i think i'm gonna try em out without getting the truss rod adjusted just yet (altho i'm a little worried) and see how they sound. i'm hoping the lights will be easier on me, since i'm just a beginner, tho i'm building up some serious calluses. hope i don't do any serious damage!

I used to be a big elixir fan and would put on a new set every 2 months because of wear. 6 months ago the store was out of elixirs so i grabbed some D'add 80/20 light exp's and those babies haven't lost their sound yet. they're friggen great!

wow you should put some new ones on even if you think they still sound good... i always think mine sound ok until i change them and then i realize how shitty they sounded

guess you just get used to how they sound
