crush

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

of all songs why does dave drop d for this one? The way i understand this song, the only time dave uses the low e string (which is tunned to d) is on the lovely lady part.

-----------
--2------2
--3------3
------------
------------
--3----- 2-

why doesn't he just do something like this instead in standard?

Also the chorus. I like to play F G C in standard open chords. however, with the drop D you can do that you have to slide up to the 8th fret on the second string.

I think its mainly for the "i do, for you" and "lovely lady" parts but i agree with you, it sounds better in standard, especially the chorus.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

it doesn't make any sense...until you get to the jam. just considering the nature of the band, i wouldnt be surprised if the jam came before the song

maybe, still you can play that jam with barre chords just as easy.

Actually

the part is play:

Code: Select all

e:------------------
B:----3----------2--
G:----2----------2--
D:----x----------x--
A:----x----------x--
D:-2--2-------2--2--
so it's in drop D to get more of a slap sound while playing it rather than having the bass E string ring out

The first time I learned it I had to double check to make sure it was in dropped D, because it didn't sound right. There are some clashing tones, but I think it sounds really cool.

obviously im bullshitting here but i think its the only explaination. getting the same notes is do-able, but getting the bass note with that percussive run has to be open.

Drop-D(pun intended) seems to be something they were playing with for "BTCS", i.e. DDTW, Last Stop, Crush. From there dave started toying with alternate tunings. It was a musical step away from the normal tuning. :D

i thought last stop was half step, no pun intended. I like when dave does half step. My opinion is just that bartender sounds great in drop d. I just dont see the point for crush.

the jam needs the drop D and i play the third chord in the chorus like this

-----------
-----------
-----------
----10----
----10----
----10----

In drop D

EDIT: Excuse my ignorence I just looked at the tabs and there truly is no reason to play it in drop. I have never played it in standerd, but from the looks of the tabs it will sound the exact same.
