Re: "Stuck in a Moment" - U2 cover
You're guitar playing is solid, but damn, quit trying to sound like the vocalists you're covering. Just sing, dammit, sing how you sound.

thanks for the feedback.. i never try to emulate or mimic the artist exactly though (maybe the falsetto part at the end of this song, for fun).. but other than that, i'm not sure what you mean... my voice is basically the same for every song i've recorded.. the only reason why i responded to this was because i have prided myself on trying to record these covers with my own style.lyrics101 wrote:You're guitar playing is solid, but damn, quit trying to sound like the vocalists you're covering. on a side note, because i'm not able to plug in,i have to sing at a softer pitch to mesh with the guitar.. if i really try to 'just sing' as if i were using a PA system, the bootleg quality sound would be even worse because the vocal levels would muffle the whole track unfortunately (tried that

thanks for the critique, that's a little better...i will work on those songs.. your first response wasn't really specific, just wanted to clarifylyrics101 wrote:But when you sing Ants Marching, you sink into the flattened Dave voice, a back of the throat tone that's not natural, and his growl. When you sing Bono, you become breathy, with his trademark sigh.

My first post came off much more harshly than I intended. The tone of your voice is obviously pleasant. I'd like to hear it when you train to its fullest and sing as such, without the incidental adjustments based on what you've heard done with the song in the past.tjmac66pc wrote:thanks for the critique, that's a little better...i will work on those songs.. your first response wasn't really specific, just wanted to clarifylyrics101 wrote:But when you sing Ants Marching, you sink into the flattened Dave voice, a back of the throat tone that's not natural, and his growl. I say incidental, because often people do it without realizing. Obviously, your own inflections can come out, your own attitude to the song, but that's different from adopting a tone or singing from a certain part of your throat to emulate what you've already adopted as "sounding good" or "fitting the song," which is what, combined with what I posted above, I feel was happening here.
