Please allow me to pay back my dues

Hello all you wonderful people.

After so many years of leaching off of your wonderful recordings, and spending countless hours enjoying the wonderful music our common protagonist has produced, it is finally here: My chance to pay back to the community!

It has just been announced that Dave is playing a solo show in the wonderful town of Copenhagen, Denmark, which just also happens to be where i live.

So I am going to record this show, and post it for free download, B&P and whatnot.

Only problem is, I have no experience what so ever with recording, and with a limited budget (student), i have no idea what i need and do not want to purchase unnecessarily much. Therefore, I hope that all you glorious recorders can tell me what i need, and please remember the budget.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to spreading the recording.

Oscar Borries

PS check my other post (http://www.dmbtabs.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=31924) for sleeping arrangements for people coming from afar.

EDIT: added link to my other post.

Buying a rig is not cheap, I cant imagine spending less than $500 minimum to have even the most primitive sounding recording.

Uhm, ok.

Well, are there any shortcuts, so to speak? For instance, i have an mp3 player that can record (i think), so could i just plug a mic into that? would that work?

In my opinion, its a very gracious offer, but you most likely won't be able to get a decent pull without spending quite a lot of money.

$500 can get you a fair rig, especially if you're willing to go second or third hand, and comb eBay. Trying to record with an mp3 player's internal microphone, or plugging a mic directly into it will almost certainly be an exercise in both frustration and futility, for many reasons.

If you want to investigate this topic further, I'd suggest heading over to http://www.taperssection.com. It's a forum all about live concert recording and they will offer you great tips. The people are generally very nice as well.

Actually, my biggest concern is that this gig wont get taped at all - the "recording" thing isnt very big here in Denmark.

Ohh, the shame it would be on Denmark if it didn't get recorded! :-)
