different strings for different jobs. i use dean markleys...chillingly mellow and warm, great for D+T style rhythm. My Trey sounds LALC with them. But for lead, i think elixirs are the standard.

I recently just went to GC and picked up about 5 sets of strings i've never tried before to "broaden my horizons". For the longest time i've been almost religious about d'addario phos/bronze lights. The EXP's to me are garbage and have a very dead tone to them. I just picked up these Eric Clapton Edition Martin Light Strings are i'm really digging on the sound of em. They're only about 3 days old but they have the perfect tone for me, hopefully it last for a month or so.

can someone please clearify real quick the difference in ultra light, light, medium strings etc...
Is it the heavier the string the more "deep bass" sounding it is?
I'm confused.. I goto the store and see Elixirs for sale, and dont know which thickness to buy...
I like playing 90's rock, dave, JJ... etc... thanks in advance.

I prefer Elixir Nanoweb Light/Mediums (theyre actually called "Light-Mediums" Im not saying I prefer Lights or Mediums)
The heavier they are, the thicker they are, so the deeper sounding they are.

elixer nanoweb light-medium PB kick ass. I put some on my alvarez and they had a really unique tone. I liked them a lot, i will probably continue to put them on my sitka spruce alvarez, but on my regular spruce i'll probably use he regular l/m nanos

D'Addario EJ16's are the best acoustic strings I have ever purchased. I used to use Martin extra lights but they became a bit crap and the fact that I could also no longer use them after winding up a set of EJ16's. I use D'addario's for all my acoustic axes, while I maintain Dean Markley Blue Steel or Ernie Ball Power Slinkies .10 guage for my Strat.
