Acoustic/Electrics

Unread post by jeffro » Wed Nov 26, 2003 9:19 pm

Alright everyone, I want a new guitar, and now have the chance to actually get one. I really want something I can amplify, and can keep for a long time. Right now I have an Alvarez Regent Series (not exactly sure which one, got it new for about $150) that is a great guitar, but like I said, I want to amplify. I have thought about simply putting a nice pickup in this, but I don't believe that this guitar will the test of time (which is my own fault). I'm willing to spend max $450.

The Ovation celebrity looks good, but I want a real full body, not the thin plasticy kind of guitars. (except for a real nice chet, but I don't have that kind of money).

I haven't really looked around because I don't really know where to start and I was hoping you guys could help me out.

Thanks in advance! :D

EDIT: Or should I save up some more, wait, and get something really nice?

If i were to go used, I'd have to actually see it and play it in person.

I'm still open to any other options, but I've basically narrowed it down to

this Ibanez

OR...

This Fender

The Ibanez seems to have more bells and whistles, but I really like the fender better, especially since the back and sides are maple. What do you guys think?

I dont know if youre really gonna get a nice, sturdy guitar thats gonna last a long time if youre only looking to spend $450 and its gonna be an acoustic electric. Those run more than regular guitars so you might have to spend money to get a fairly nice one. I could be wrong because I havent exactly shopped around in that range but thats my opinion.

id go with the ibanez. the sound difference will be mainly in the top due to the b/s being laminate on both guitars. the ibanez has englemann and the fender has sitka. play them both. see what you like.

I have a fender DG-20CE. I just put too heavy of strings on it and bent the neck, which is why I really needed this Michael Kelly, but it's a good guitar, and all the acoustic guitar you've heard me on was my fender, just plugged it in and played.

Good for intermediate. It's not the best for live, but will do an ok job. For recording, you've heard it on here, it's fine.

So, I bet the 22 is good too, I bet it's not that much different from the 20 I have.

Well, right now I have an alvarez and I really like it, but I want to try something different. The takamines look good too, I just wasn't able to find any so far, but I'm nowhere near done yet. Thanks for all the excellent advice everyone

I'd recommend a Washburn D10-CE. I have a D10CEM and it's the best medium-priced guitar out there. I lowered the action a tad and it plays like a dream. Came with damn fine Grover tuners too. Check one out if you can. Should be about $400 or so.

After trying out many different guitars at many different places i decided on...

A Dean Exotica Rosewood Supreme, (http://www.deanguitars.com/exotica_rosewood_supreme.htm)

I love it and I've only played it a few times, now I have to wait for Christmas. 4 more days!
