new buy for me: Taylor 214

I traded in my Alvarez today for one of these babies.

I don't know what it was about it, but i just really liked this guitar. I told the guy I was just going to play around on some guitars and see how I liked them, he came back like 20 minutes later and was like "your still playing the same one!?" and i was like surprised i didnt even realize it had been that long.

anyway i just really liked it and I must say I would lean towards Martin's myself, but I just had to have this!

here's some pics

http://www.itogakki.co.jp/musicbank/tay ... ck/214.jpg -- this is on some guy's website but it looks exactly like mine, such as the color and the run of the grain.

thanks guys.

i have a problem though. heres the scenario

ok so im in college and i live on campus about 15-20 minutes from my house and sometimes i'll go home on weekends and im there for breaks. So here is the thing. I live in a dorm which can be pretty crazy, but my room is usually detached from all the partyers and everything fortunately, just by chance I guess.

So here is the thing. I didn't want to bring my new Taylor to school because of the following:

- thought it would be an extra worry on my mind when im not in the room (ie. is someone in there playing it or is it ok, what if my roommate leaves the door open and someone steals it, etc...)
- didn't want any permanent damage to occur to it (ie someone drunk comes in the room and wants to play it and they end up damaging it by accident)
- worried about the unstable humidity levels in the building. my room is typically 35-40% humidity which isnt bad, but I live on the eigth floor and i have a hygrometer in here and it can go as low as 20 or as high as 60. i think its just from varying weather, and they just turned the heat on in the building as well... so its like 77.5 degrees here. problem is i cant really change the climate conditions, i do have a humidifier for the guitar though; a soundhole one. So i could just use that in the case when i'm not using it. It's fine at home because my basement is consistantly 50% humidity all the time -- just the way it is

So long story short, should i bring the taylor to school or not? i have my old friend Jasmine (by Takamine) which i was thinking of bringing instead and wouldnt have to worry about it. I guess the problem is I would only get to play it here and there for the next 2 and a half years (besides summer and breaks) since i'm a sophomore.

Anyone else had this situation or any advice? thanks.

i think the best thing to remember here is you bought a guitar, guitars are meant to be played. i can understand the worrya bout a drunk ass pounding away on your guitar. if you are there and someone hammered is trying to play your guitar tell them no. if you are worried about being away, get a lock for your case.
a soundhole humidifier should be good for the winter.
i know your guitar is new so youre probably very inclined to baby it but in the long run it will have dings and scratches. if youve read all of my ramblings to here just enjoy your guitar however you see fit.
congrats

I don't live in a dorm, but in an apartment/house with 4 other friends. I've told them that the guitar is expensive and that they gotta be careful with it, and that's cool. If we're having a party I put it in my room instead of the livingroom, and the problem is solved. I'm not sure exactly how it is to live in a dorm, but I assume people respect your stuff like normal? One of my friends plays guitar as well, and he plays mine all the time, also when I'm not there...no problem for me, as long as I know he's careful with it.

and yeah, the humidity is a problem, cause the winters here are really dry and it would be better for my guitar to be back home (southern norway), but I'll start putting it in its case with a humidifier soon. So I guess my advice is to talk to your friends about your guitar meaning a lot to you, and deal with the humidity in other ways.

a hard shell case, which all taylors come with i think, and a good spot under your bed or in a closet should solve all of your problems. a locks not a bad idea either

yea what is cool is the guys i live with i pretty much all know, because we all got a section of the dorms together this year. So they will be cool about it im sure, i just worried about random people that would come in, but you guys are right. I don't want to just let it sit there at home and be unused; kinda pointless. I already kept my guitar under my bed actually, which i agree is the prime place for it; keeps it out of the way and from anyone accidentally bumping it over or something like that. Also, like someone was saying, it did come with a hardshell too so that should keep it from minor/intermediate kind of stuff.

Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna pick it up probably tomorrow and bring it to school since we have the day off (catholic university and All saint's Day)
