string guage question
string guage question
i'm about ready to change my strings on my taylor 110 for the first time. i'd like to try using lights, but after reading some info from the taylor site, i'm not sure if i should.
from their info, they say you might have to get your guitar set up if you change brand and/or size. also they say that using lights on dreds don't produce as much tone and volume.
would like you guy's opinions on what i should do. who there uses lights on their dreadnought? you think getting a setup from a pro guitar tech is necessary if i switch? also, what difference would i expect between lights and mediums?
thanks!

Taylor dreads come stock with medium elixirs i believe. mediums produce a louder and bassier sound than lights. if you decide to get lights, have your truss rod adjusted.

There are no way they come with Mediums. I would guess lights or medium lights, but most people dont have the calluses to play mediums, let alone able to bend notes into tune.
Lose the elixirs on dreadnaughts. Too bright. D'addarios all the way. jmho.

Get some non-coated light strings for your dred. They'll sound a lot better. (ie: Not two weeks old right when you put them on.) The light gauge will be much easier on you too, if youre a beginner. The shop you bought the guitar at should make the necessary adjustments at no charge.

haha, Potvin shouldn't be the focus...the youngster Raycroft should be, and he's been playing phenomenal to this point...B's will be a worthy contender this yearQuattroDore wrote:Durability, smuribility. D'adds
And the B's are going nowhere with a washout like Potvin betwixt the pipes. (had to throw that in).
