I have looked everywhere and I can't find anything that explains the numbers next to and below the tab string lines:

The numbers on the strings (next to the string name, like E, A, D, etc.) are the notes you play, they tell you which fret to play on which string. And the numbers above the string names tell you the suggested fingering for that riff or whatever you're playing, so a one would be index finger, 2 middle and so on. Hope that helps.

i'm not absolutely sure but i believe you are referreing to the fingering. the number that appears below or at the side of the tabs refers to the finger used to play that fret. 1=index; 2=middle; 3=ring; 4=pinkytayles wrote:Hi All,

Hi,
so what are numbers in brackets (4) and what do i do when there's a 'x' on the fret? Also what would "4 on 7" mean at the right hand side of a tab (see tab for lover lay down to see examples of these).
