Should I take the plunge? (914ce)
Should I take the plunge? (914ce)
I have always wanted a Taylor 914ce. It is definitely my "dream" guitar. Now, I have a chance to get one at an amazing price, but I'm not sure that I want to right now. I can get one new out-of-the-box for $3100. That is an amazing deal in my mind, but I can get it for $2900 from the same dealer without electronics. Every other time that I was pondering getting a 914ce, it involved getting rid of one the guitars that I have now. In this situation, I can get the 914ce, and keep all of my guitars. It seems like a win-win, but it's just the price tag that bothers me. If you guys were in my situation, what would you say? Thanks in advance for the help.
My guitars:
Taylor 714
Taylor 614ce
Martin Sigma DR-41
Epiphone Chet Atkins SST (Ebony)
Danelectro 56-U2 reissue

yes I priced one out at a very competitive store in my town
and it was 3900
the retail price is some where around 5000
man I wouldn't worry about the price if you love the guitar as much as you say you do.
My philosophy has always been: Looking back on it years from now your not going to remember the money you spent, but rather the good times you had.

This is really a personal decision.
Almost 2 years ago, when I decided to upgrade my guitar, it also took me some time to make sure I wanted to spend a lot in a new guitar.
I just realized that the best timing to have the guitar of my dreams is not when I am 40 years old! So, if you can afford it now and if you really want it, just go for it!
You won't regret it man, I'm sure. Buy it, smell it, feel it and play it... It just an overwhelming feeling to have the guitar of your dreams!!

I smell my HD35 all the time. Especially when its been in its case for a while. There's nothing like a new martin smell.sfmartins wrote:This is really a personal decision.

I voted No cause i'm not a fan of the 914 and that price tag is ridiculous. If I had to buy a taylor it would be a 714.
I agree! I just bought a limited edition Larrivee for $1500 and everytime I play it, I know that I made the right decision!I just realized that the best timing to have the guitar of my dreams is not when I am 40 years old! So, if you can afford it now and if you really want it, just go for it!
The 914 is also one of my dream guitars!

Abso-freakin-lutely buy it. I finally got the balls to drop the dough for mine and I have not regretted it for a moment. It was / is my dream guitar as well, and I don't think I'll ever be replacing it... although several others are joining the collection shortly.

Well, here's what I came up with. I decided to hold off on getting the 914 for the time being. I eventually will get one, but just can't justify the $3200 right now. I'm gonna bide my time and definitely get one next year. Thanks for the support.
