Re: Thoughts on my band?
On this song that pops up -- I want less going on. It's too busy for my ears. Good tune, I can say, but cut down on the acoustic, maybe even drop the violin down an octave on the verse.
Tipping Holly? First thing I think of is Flogging Molly.
But you can definitely work with this song.

The website was beautiful. I loved it. Check out laughingsquid.net for some cheap domain hosting, so you can drop the bandzoogle thing.m98ter wrote:we get the flogging molly thing alot...but until RCA or Sony or whoever else says change it and we'll give you a million dollars, it'll probably stay like it is. I understand what you mean, when we get to the studio it'll sound more like you describe...its just hard getting things right with a straight to cd recording...I guess I'm after more feedback on our style and the "idea" behind our band rather than the mechanics of the song.
Thanks though, really appreciate it...what do you think of the website layout?
I like the concept behind the song; as I said, stick with it.
The "No Stairway to Heaven" sign was fabulous. A Freebird one may be useful as well, or you can pull a Davish thing: "Here's your fucking free bird." *flips 'em off*

From my personal tastes, you're the type of band I wouldn't necessarily purchase an album from, but I would definitely be psyched to see you live whenever I could. But since bands make most of their money touring anyway, that's not necessarily a bad thing.m98ter wrote:Thanks a bunch...I appreciate the feedback. Locally we're starting to gain a lot of attention with our band, so we're thinking about making a move to a bigger city and trying to pursue it for a year or so...so really I'm just trying to get feeddback on whether anyone thinks our style has any potential to do good in a bigger city...nashville, mempis, maybe austin tx.
Now a vinyl? I'd buy that.

you guys have a different style, its not mine, but country music is the biggest genre of music in the whole world, so theres gotta be a market for it. go for it.

The verse sounds almost identical to the Railroad Earth song "Long Way to Go"
I love bluegrass so I will be a harsh critic. I don't think you guys have all the elements yet. Instrument virtuosity is almost essential for a good bluegrass band, and I'm not hearing that great flat picking or the stunning mandolin work anywhere. Plus, the violinist seems to have some intonation problems at times.
Vocals are OK but where are the perfect harmonies and vocal syncopation I hear in all my favorite bands?
Want some inspirato? Check out Hot Buttered Rum's new album 'Well-Oiled Machine.' Those guys show both instrumental land vocal virtuosity as well as AMAZING song writing, all elements which make up a solid bluegrass group.
Not trying to knock you, your band is better than mine (which is non-existant) but I'd think twice before sacrificing a couple of years of your life to move to a big city.
Also, find someone who plays upright. This is crucial.
Peace

very country (route 66) i like the sound and feel, the vocals are nice too, at times i heard patsy cline then at times i could hear a more contemporary country style of singing if that makes any sense
