mic problem

Unread post by proudestmonkey41 » Tue Oct 10, 2006 11:04 am

i decided to bring my crappy computer mic from home to school to use on my laptop. im planning on buying a real mic soon, but for now the comp one will have to do.

from past experience all ive had to do is plug it in and then record, so i tried that yesterday and i got nothin. i thought maybe it was just cool edit not working, but then when i tried other recording software it didnt work either. do i have to do something to install the mic? if anyone has any suggestions on how to get this workin it would bemuch appreciated.

check all the sound options on the computer, the mic volume might be turned down all the way or muted or something

It might be something with the software you are using to record with. Make sure that whatever input the mic is in on your computer that it is also selected as the default recording source in the program.

Budget? Do you have a mixer or mic preamp already? Do you want to record guitar and vocals or just guitar or just vocals? Are you looking to just go straight into the line-in on your computer or do you need some other option?

budget wise im not too concerned.. ive had a $200 gift certificate for a guitar store in toronto for months now.. i was planning on using it towards a new guit, but i decided just to use it for accesories. im pretty sure they have a decent selection of mics if i remember right. i do not have a mixer nor a pre amp, and im planning on having it go straight into the computer. i will be using it for guitar and vocals.

If you are just going to go straight into the computer, and you dont want to buy a mixer or some sort of usb or firewire device, then i would just get a usb mic. That way there will be no annoying noises.

Here is one if found with a quick search on musicians friend.

Im sure there are others so shop around.

good luck
