Ignorant acoustic player on electric
Idk the difference between any electric guitars. why a dean is 100 bucks and a les is 1,500. i play on a squire strat electric which imo sucks. i really dont like the sound. but then again i am playing an an acoustic amp untill i get my electric amp this weekend. i was wondering what electric guitar i should get from $300-500. and why. i really have no clue about these guitars. i can tell the diffrence between acoustics. i love my 714ce. idk im just new at this

What kind of music are you looking to play with it?? Here are some models that you might want to take a look at.

For your price range, i would really look into a made in mexico telecaster or stratocaster. You can get them for about 400 new and cheaper used. Then upgrade the pickups which will cost you somewhere around 150. You will have a 550 guitar that sounds like its over a grand.
The telecaster has a three way selector switch and is good for all kinds of rock blues and country. The strat has a five way selector and three pickups so it is a little more versatile and you can get different sounds out of it.
The amp is also very important, do you know what kind you are getting? I would recomend gettting a tube amp but thats just personal preference on my part, i think they sound much better than solid state amps.

Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

For an amp around 300 i would absolutely recommend a fender blues junior. Its only 30 watts i think, but it howls. It's a tube amp that will work for the blues, rock, country and it allows you to crank the volume while keeping the master switch low to give you some great overdrive. It will gig ok in small venues but if you are playing somewhere big, you will need to mic it through the PA. Overall it is a great little amp that is at home in the studio and live.
Squier is the cheap version of fenders. They have cheap pickups and parts. My first electric was a squier and i have since upgraded to a real telecaster. I notice a huge difference in playability first of all, the neck is faster and the strings are spaced a little farther apart. I always felt like the squier's strings were really tight and that made it hard to play. Also, a real fender will sound much better due to the pickups being 10X the quality.

Think of it as three steps in quality with squier at the bottom, MIM in the middle, and Made in America at the top.
As you go up parts get better, pickups get better, construction gets better, and playability gets better.
The big problem with squiers is they are not all that playable.
I would really recommend going MIM with either a tele or a strat and upgrading the pickups, best way to go if youre on a budget.
