Bass Effect Question (Phish - Free)

if you go to myspace.com/phish

they have a live version of "free" on there.. if you listen to Mike Gordons bass effect he has on that song its amazing and he uses in a lot of their songs..

Does anyone know exactally what effect he's using there?


Is it an Evelope Filter with a touch of Distortion?

i'm able to somewhat get that sound, but not quite what i'm looking for..

Anyone know?
