Obessed?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Obessed?

Unread post by daduke40 » Mon Oct 09, 2006 12:27 am

Ok, my friends told me I was obessed with playing Dave Matthews Band songs. I just love the riffs and the original music he plays. I don't think I have ever came across a band or a guitar player that has similar style to him. I do know songs from other bands, but I just focus on playing Dave. Does anyone else have this problem?

i heard of this one guy, jared kanter. he totally flipped out and started an entire dave matthews band internet site devoted to playing dave's riffs.
are you catching my sarcasm, cause i'm laying it on pretty think
j/k

i too cannot stop playing dave songs. i thought it was a problem but now i think its just a hobby. i go in and out of stages where i one day i may be your average dmb fan and then the next day i'm class 5 red alert obsessed fan. its kinda fun :D

"Obessed"?

I was totally all about playing DMB songs in the beginning. Once I got them down and realized they weren't that difficult, I moved on to other things I needed to work on (fingerpicking and soloing).

When I practice at home about 75 percent of the songs that i'll play (play as i would play them in front of a crowd) are Dave songs. There's nothing wrong with it, it's all about what attracts you. I feel that I sound best when I'm playing Dave and it's what I really enjoy, so that's what I tend to play. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to play other stuff like Jack, OAR, Damian Rice, Howie Day, etc., but I'll always prefer dave.

That was one for my "next steps" too.

Right now I'm trying to develop my fingerpicking by playing Tommy Emmanuel. But that guy is completely insane, and probably doesn't do anything else than playing guitar!!

i play a lot of DM,

it is weird as about 50% of what i play is by one band, but thats Ok,
at least i get to play those tracks in a sort of jam session/tribute etc

otherwise what do i learn them for?

what attract me most to dave's lics are the combination of struming chords with picking, and unique chords changes. It makes other songs I learn seem boring, and repetitive.

Yeah another thing that I like about dave is that 97 percent of his songs are good. There might be a couple I don't like, probably songs from "Everyday" and "Stand Up" cause in my opinion, those are his worst albums, but thats besides the point. But he basically taught me how to play guitar. I ve been playing his songs since the beginning and moving up from his easiest to hardest..I wonder if I would even play guitar if it wasn't for him...What would you say?

I'd say if I had it all, I'd have the best of whats around every day.
