Taylor or Martin
I was just wondering what you guys think... Taylor or Martin? Why?
Personally, I love the bright and crystal clear tone of Taylors. They are absolutely amazing for live shows or any solo performer. Taylors just seem to come alive in the hands of the player. I like the neck a lot better, and I find that I can tweak the action on my 314ce to absolute perfection. I also like Martins, and their rich, deep tone is fantastic. However, Martins, especially the dreadnaughts, can sound a little Muddy to me. I've had the oppurtunity to play tons of different Taylors and Martins, but I always go back to Taylors.

DMBTabs welcome to it. Anyway, I have to say that I'm a 1000% Taylor nut. I own a 614ce and 714 myself, and couldn't ask for better sound quality. I've played the 314ce and love the tone of the mahogany and spruce. I also owned a Martin D-35, but got rid of i because it didn't compare to my other two acoustics. I know someone will slam me for that last comment.
Overall, for me, Taylor 100%, and I agree that the necks are much quicker and easier to play on Taylors.

My guitars:
Taylor 714
Taylor 614ce
Martin Sigma DR-41
Epiphone Chet Atkins SST (Ebony)
Danelectro 56-U2 reissue
Fender American Deluxe Strat
Fender Aerodyne Telecaster
BC Rich Eagle Custom

Not to be one of those people, but here's a link to one of my threads from a few months back on this same topic. There's also another link. The other link is very enjoyable reading. Most people on the boards like Martin better, but hey, to each his/her own. I always enjoy when people bring this up. Again welcome to the boards.

Don't buy a Martin. I had a D-28 for like 2 months, and during that time i hated it. I now have a Taylor 814ce, and it couldn't be sweeter. Buy a Martin only if you want to argue with Taylor people about how much better your guitar is, even though it's not.
I guess it's all personal preference, but I enjoy the brightness and evenness of the tone of a Taylor. Martins are too bassy for me. there's no punch to them. it's personal preference i guess.

Exactly, i played taylors and martins all day before i got my 614ce. the taylor just had such brighter snappier sound. martins definitely have a lot more bass which can be good if thats what you want.Grasso wrote:Don't buy a Martin. Martin guitars are made by hand, Taylor guitars are made by machines. Machines break. People do fuck up, but people are better than machines.
The tone and balance of Martin guitars is superior in my opinion. Nobody can balance bass and treble like Martin.
Martin has been making guitars for over a hundred years.

This is also my opinion, but it depends on your style of playing...6_strings_for_life wrote:Martin>Taylor
This is something that is 100% opinion. There is no black and white anwser to this. I have played tons of both companies and I just think martins are an all around better guitar.
IMO, if you want an ACOUSTIC, buy a MARTIN.
If you play with a band you might prefer a Taylor (like dave) or maybe a Martin OM or 000 (like the guy from Coldplay, I guess).
