Jack Johnson "posters" cover

Unread post by horsmar15 » Thu Nov 20, 2003 1:07 pm

Greetings, I just finished recording a cover of Jack Johnson's "posters", and I felt like posting it. Y'all are probably getting sick of me by now posting so many covers so rapidly, but no one's forcing you to listen :D . This track is an unedited one, meaning I added no reverb or other effects and I think it fits this track quite nicley. Also, I liked this one because it was a change of pace for me and gave me a chance to work on my low voice. Check it out if ya want to and tell me what you think. Enjoy!

A couple of things I think I should mention at this time. First of all, I realize this is a DMB board and I bet you all are wondering why i never post DMB covers. My reason for this is I simply don't cover Dave very well. My voice is not suited for his songs. I assure you that I do like Dave and his music, but I just think that I totally slaughter his songs when I cover them. (mabye sometime I might post a Dave cover, just for a laugh) Another point I would like to make is about the fact that I post so many covers. My reason for this is that at college (WIU) I have so much free time that I can basically learn a new song every day. Well, i'm done talking, hope this clarifies a few things.

that was pretty cool, man. You pretty much hit all the note singing, and your voice was good.

The only thing that bugged me was that the little hammer on riff was wrong, if you did it on purpose, forgive me, but maybe your tab was wrong. I'll record a little snipit in a second.

Other than that minor detail, I thought it was great, your voice is really good. How long have you been playing?

Ha, I must go learn this song. I like Jacks way to sing, he always put so much lyrics into the songs. This kinda remembered me of Like A Rolling Stone.
You did well on that one, the guitar sounds solid and you sang in key all through the song. Nice man.

But at 1:21, you can hear how you haven't cut the song properly, sounds kinda funny

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": The food court is downstairs. The cookie stand is upstairs. It's not like we're talking quantum physics here.

Glad y'all liked the cover. Here are some answers to questions. First of all I have been playing guitar for about 6years now and singing for about 7 months. Secondly, I kind of realized that I did that hammer on part wrong, but it is easier to play it the way i did, for me at least. Also, i don't mind the way it sounds the way i play it. Finally, for my mayer cover I got the tab from sympatico and added parts of the new intro found on some versions of heavier things. There should be a thread on mystupidmouth.com musicians forum entitled "hello, and sucker cover" that has my intro tabbed out.

One thing I forgot, in reply to borocks, that little part at 1:21 was actually on the original wav track. I think that often times my computer screws up during the recording and it screws up the track. Yet another reason for me to buy some better equipment
