its three mutes. make a nice 'achicka' sound. so yea...hit the D chord, then just mute all the strings and strum three times.

when I go from the d chord to the slide or the g chord to the slide, I just do a quick up down on just the lower 2/3 of the next of the guitar with a quick mute. It sounds right to me, and it sounds like that is what dave does. To do an udud you have to mute right after you play the d and g chord and you don't let the chord ring for a bit which is what Dave does. If you don't get what I am talking about, get me on AIM and I'll send a quick audio sample.

ok, let me check out the recording I have from 1994 when leroi, dave, and stefan were at 105.5 wmmm (local and awesome radio station, last one of it's kind, and very popular) supporting UTTAD and they played a bunch of songs (but only dave's part comes through clearly, the bass is pretty much not heard, and leroi is quiet in the background, unfortunately).
. . . .
he is doing what I do. Quick up down fast. He doesn't let it the G and D ring in this one. He is doing exactly what I am doing. I will post a quick file about what I am talking about, with me doing it, then dave doing it off this recording.
