Yet another new original.

Unread post by mangold » Fri Sep 01, 2006 2:52 pm

Ok guys. I wrote this song yesterday and the recording has alot of problems with it as always. I tried to do it my normal way with just one mic for both my guitar and me, but the guitar part is so soft you couldnt even hear it. So i had to record the guitar and vocals seperately, and i have trouble singing if im not playing guitar... mental block i guess? anyways im really looking for critique on the songwriting. I promise new and better recordings of all my songs as soon as i procure a usb interface... oy.

Wow I really enjoyed it, nice job man. I really like that riff its very catchy and its so mellow. You say your voice sucks I think you sound good, its not incredible but enjoyable to listen too. I like your lyrics but I think your voice is too high sometimes overpowering the guitar. Can you tab that riff out i would love to play it.

I see that you live in West Chester, PA... My best friend goes to West Chester, do you play around there live?

I like the guitar a lot.

I guess your voice doesn't sound great in particular points, namely in softer parts. I guess it comes with practice.

Great job!

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.

Andy my man, when did you learn to sing!?!?

Seriously, this is your best work yet, not only as a vocalist but songwriting as well. I read throught the lyrics and they are really good.

Very Impressive man, keep this up, you are improving quickly.

PS. Pay Pezner to add cello and this would be $$$
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

i know this would be nice with some cello, but its not in me to pay the pez.

thanks alot for the kind words. i think i really decided to start improving my singing the night i jammed with jim whittaker, because he is a great musician, but more than that has played with some great musicians. he said something that really affected me: "well son, you pick pretty good. thing is, everywhere you go there a great pickers, people that play better than you could imagine. what is scarce is good writers. writing is where its at"
I guess at that point my musical journey changed from becoming the best player i possibly could to becoming as good of a singer songwriter as i could.

thanks again

i like it. nice little ballad-like. i can hear what your voice is going to sound like when you get 100% control over it and put some power behind it. you're so close. it's going to take some more power, some more practice some more confidence and some more plain ole deep down heart from you, but you're almost there and it comes out during the second verse just slightly and it sounds great.

the song itself...badass. i love it. one of my favs that i've heard from you. i don't think you need another thing added, no cello, no second vocals, no nothing. hell, if you had a full band i would tell you to play this one alone anyway.

That is great advice and it is the truth. You have good song writing skills, keep it up. I live about a little more than an hour away from West Chester. I have a few originals and a singer that i think is real good(im hoping to record these songs soon) i visit my friend at WCU often if you want we can jam and maybe come up with some more stuff for our songs.
