in many circumstances I completely agree, but w/ the everday deal, it's a little different imo. I think everyone was expecting something different, something more in-touch w/ dmb's style and then they got everyday. at first that would be kinda hard to take in just b/c you had your mind set on something else. so it makes sense to me that it would take time to adjust for something like this, although I liked it from the start.fatjack wrote:i dont see what the deal is with everyone saying stuff like "it took me a while to get into it"
if its good music, you'll like it right away. music appreciation shouldn't be forced
As much as a lot of people bash Everyday...

That happens to me very often. I listen to a song, and don't think very much of it when I hear it, but as I listen to it, and especially as I learn to play it, I start to respect the song and get into the music. I stop caring about little idiosyncracies in the song I once disliked.
If you've ever seen Mr. Holland's Opus, there is a scene where he talks about a John Coltraine album that he listened to where at first he hated it. But he listened to it again, listened to it again, and again. He couldn't stop listening to it, because he had gained that kind of respect for the music.
I don't know why it happens that way for me, but it just does.

Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

believe it or not, it was my drum teacher that suggested watching Carter's movie. I was more a Third Eye Blind and 3 doors down kinda guy at the time. Anyway I watched it and just thought it kinda interesting(of coursxe I didnt pay any attention, I just wanted to see a "cool" song anyway, I heard the word #41. Later that month my mom bought LS because she wanted to get Ants Marching(we didnt know what it was called so we bought at random) Then I saw on the cover #41. I listened to it and the rest is history.......more or less......borocks wrote:the way carter hits the hi-hat at the very beginning of the song is freaking awesome!!!
btw, what ever happened to the Collaboration?

No, he has two movies. One with Victor and one by himself. I have UTTAD. Its just himn and his set talking about theory and the songs. He shows a bunch of his famous jams and goes step by step through his fill snad chops. It also has video of DMB back in the stoner days. Its really good. I am going to get the other one with Wooten for my B-day/christmas
