I know there have been tons already...but a few Crash ?'s

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I know there have been tons already...but a few Crash ?'s

Unread post by NeoLP314 » Wed Aug 30, 2006 8:34 pm

Hey guys....names LP...I use to play the guitar way when I was little but stopped playing to concentrate on ballin....anyway...I just picked her back up finally about 2 1/2 weeks ago and I can't seem to put her down...Im a big DMB fan and I just bought the Dave Matthews Band for easy guitar Vols 1 and 2 off Amazon...ok the first song of Dave that I really want to play is Crash...and yes I know there have been numerous ?'s on this particular song, so sorry if I'm asking the same one over or what not...here is the intro to Crash

Intro/Verse

E:-------------------------------------------------
B:---5------5----5------5----5------5----5------5--
G:---4------4----4------4----4------4----4------4--
D:---2------2----x------x----x------2----x------x--
A:-4-4----0-0--2-2------2----2----0-0--2-2------2--
E:--------------------0-0--4-4----------------0-0--
2 1 2 1

First Question:

1. Is the song starting off on the 6th string, second fret?

2. the 0 on the 5th string, is that an open A on that string?

3. Do you not play the x's under the 5 and 4? or are you just supposed to strum the B and G strings

"Crash, Into Me..."

E:--------------------0--------
B:---5----------------0-----3--
G:---4----------------1-----2--
D:---2----------------2-----x--
A:-4-4----------------2-----x--
E:---------4--5--7\---0---2-2--
2 1 2 (4) 2

1. what does the 4 in parentheses mean?

I really want to play this song to my girlfriend....It will be my first DMB and I want to get it so badly...I hope you guys can be able to help me...and if you can thank you in advance :)

DMBTabs, welcome to it

Anyway, if you want tabs, and want to play the song the right way, youre in the right place. Just check the tabs here for all your needs.

Crash: http://www.dmbtabs.com/song.php?sid=25

To start the song, you play a 4 on the A (5th) string

0's in tabs are just open, yes

X's are mutes, you play the sting, but you just let your finger lightly lay over the sting so that the sound is deadened. Dave uses a lot of mutes in his songs so learning how to do them is a step in the right direction.

Also, I would advise you to learn all the open chords, barre chords, and power chords, along with all the "Dave Chords" http://www.dmbtabs.com/lessons.php?id=1

If you need any help just ask, many people around here are very happy to lend a hand, answer any questions you have, and some will record audio/video clips of them playing songs you need help with to serve as a lesson.

The numbers under the tabs tell you with what fingers you should be holding down the strings.
1 = index
2 = middle
3 = ring
4 = pinky

Parantheses in tabs mean the note optional, I would venture to guess parantheses in the part that tells you what finger to use means that its just a suggestion but doesnt really matter, play it how you want. But Im not sure.

Welcome ;)

1. No. The numbers below the tab (that 2 1 2 1 stuff) show which fingers does Dave use to play the chords. So on the 1st chord he's playing 5th string, 4th fret with 2nd finger (middle finger)

2. Yes

3. When you see more notes on the same vertical line you have to play them together (if the tab doesnt say otherwise). So you have to play the whole chord, muting the x (just lay the pointer finger on the string)

I suggest you to check the FAQ's out anyway ;)

If there are some parts you cant understand, it's just me...FUCK ENGLISH :P

edit: oh well jayme already posted this ^^
