i think there were two DMB tribute/cover bands called tripping billies. I saw one at harpers ferry in Allston (Boston), MA a few years ago and they were damn good. The singer even looked a little like dave, it was creepy.
those are the guys that were formed in CT I think. I saw them once in hartford (I think it was Hartford) and it was a good time

I don't understand why the lead singer doesn't attempt to sing like Dave? Am I missing the point here?

excellent use of the search function!
Dick, this thread is about DMB Tribute Bands.

Nice shades btw.

i was being sincere :(
My apologies then, but I still don't get the remark about the search function

BTW, I saw One Sweet World last Fri. and they were actually quite good, I noticed a lot of Dave nuances in the singer's voice and it actually was one of the better cover attempts at DMB I've seen.

I agree with the making more $$$ thing but that can be a short ride for a band. For instance I know some guys that are killer players and started up a U2 cover band and they quit their day jobs because they were making so much $$$ in Boston, NY, etc. With a band like U2 or DMB I can see how this may be fruitful, but for how long?
